The heroes kept traveling across the Great Anvil, moving in the morning and evening.
On the 11th, a powerful sandstorm forced the group to halt for a day. On the 13th, Flint used a fly spell to aerially verify the party's position. In the process he discovered a) that the party was badly off-course and b) flying was forbidden to mortals in this desert. This later fact he learned from three jann who surrounded him invisibily and questioned his purpose in their desert.
Later that day, near evening, the group spied what at first appeared to be a phoenix in the sky. Quickly, however, they discovered it was a man with skin like white marble and wings of fire. The asuras questioned the group's purpose in the Great Anvil, seemingly enjoying the verbal sparring with Orn over theology. Before he left, Nabodimus warned the group of an efreeti encampment ahead. Accordingly, the heroes altered their course, taking further time onto their journey.
On the 16th, the heroes were surprised by a pack of five ammut erupting out of the sands. Although the group quickly defeated the monsters, it cost them Jamil's horse. Sabuto butchered the animal and the heroes dumped one of their water barrels, allowing them to keep the same pace.
And so it was that near sunset on the 18th of May the group arrived at the Genie's Forge. In the distance they could make out a great gate guarded by at least two fire giants.
The next move...?

David,
We didn't dump the water, We "tanked up" the camels so they would be at optimal level!

Well, sorta. That was more water than the camels could drink, but I get your point -- at least THOSE animals will have some range now (although for the horses this is looking more and more like a one-way trip).
