David, et al,
When we return to the surface I want to make ABSOLUTELY sure that we CLEARLY let everyone know that destroying the Obelisks eliminates the create darkness spells!
It is imperative to destroy these Nordic (Verulean?) icons. Plus you need read Langs AND read magic to read them.
Alternatively, Arthur has Read Langs at level 4 and has comp lang and read magic! (he's got the time to burn some spells and read his smaller obelisk!

I think it is great that we were able to take out the obilisks that we did. Cloe would like to tell Belia about using the stone shape spells and a little brute force to destroy the obilisks. I would also like to talk to her about coming up with a plan to work together to go down into the catacombs as one large group and take out all of the obilisks. I think that if we do this first, we will have a better chance of defeating the undead. After all of the obilisks are gone we start sweeping the levels and clearing them one by one. If we work together and have larger parties, it will be harder to get paralyzed and killed because wee will be able to watch each other's backs
What do you think?

The obelisks were Nordic/Varangian.
In all likelihood, they were either invoking darkness or otherwise dispel light. At least that's Beli'a's theory.
Beli'a completely supports Chloe's plan, although Chloe is perceptive enough to recognize mild disapproval of her "non-orthodox" belief-system. At the same time, however, Beli'a is a team player and not closed-minded, so there's hope.
Beli'a suggests launching a multi-pronged attack. She will talk to Haroushan (now in charge of the Mosque of a Thousand Fountains [Zann the Learned]) as well as Fatimah (now in charge of the Tower of the Moon [Selan the Beautiful]) about sending ALL of their priests in together in a concerted effort. The undead not destroyed would be turned from one group to another and basically encircled. With the blessing of the Loregiver, that should clear the way for the heroes to reach the obelisk area again and enter these catacombs. The clerics will follow behind as they can (the DM is not going to let the NPCs fix this, nor do they necesarily have all the resources -- it should be clear that these undead are VERY clever and can inflict serious harm!). To ensure your success, Beli'a will send her second-in-command to accompany the heroes...

Cloe to Belia-
"There are several things we should plan for. First, we should have people in each group that can do multiple invisibility purges. Second, for if that fails, we should have people who can faerie fire. Third, we should have people with detect invisibility to see the undead coming. Fourth, we should have people in each group that can stone shape the obilisks and a second person with a skill to finish it off if necessary. Orn was a great asset in that respect. Fifth, each group should be able to cast a few remove paralysis spells for the people who get paralyzed. Sixth, it would be great for the highest level priest in the group to go in invisible themselves, that way they can't be paralyzed in the first initial attack. Any other ideas?"

Arthur,
To Cloe - I can cast invisibility if you or any other cleric needs to be unseen.
(Note to Gamers - Arthur levels to 4th on July 5th - he currently can cast Inviso and will get another 2nd level spell slot on the 5th )

Per Steven's email to me regarding the SMALL obelisk the party found. Arthur hasn't had a day free with his spells since it was recovered, so no comprehend languages or read magic yet. It DOES, however, appear to be similar to the larger ones the party destroyed.
