Howdy folks and Happy New Year!
The Apocalypse is over, the Champions of Oerth have returned, and life is returning to normal.
As such, the gaming slate is nearly clear. One game (In Defense of Chendl) needs to finish or be declared a failure (in the next week or so!). What follows are the games I want to run in 2006. Please let me know your TOP THREE choices (although Arabia is already "set" and Chendl will either happen soon or not at all).
In Defense of Chendl -- this game MUST be finished before January 15th (arbitrary, but it really should have finished by Jan 1st -- I'm only extending it because it was a game-in-progress). The captiol of Furyondy is ready to fall again to Iuz's orcish armies. A handful of high-level heroes are trying to slaughter the main opposition forces (giants, trolls, ogres, demons, and clerics of Iuz) in order to buy enough time for reinforcements to arrive AFTER the Apocalypse.
Exploring Arabia -- the Arabian/Thursday night party has been quested with a sea-based mission. My goal is for the ship to serve as a plot-device allowing a large party with multiple PCs per player to form and explore Zakhara and/or Kara-Tur, the Archipelico, Hepmonaland, etc. Different games would allow players to "pull on" either their lower level or higher level crew members.
Harmonia's Temple -- the remaining Greek heroes on Oerth (especially Arianna and Rufus) have some unfinished business to attend to in the desecrated Temple of Harmonia. This game will probably leave out of Amberwood (with the aid of Kephalonia) and probably be relatively short (one night).
The Temple of Elemental Evil -- the New Heroes barely scratched the surface of this adventure. Now that the evil has been stirred up, it's going to strike back. Ghaunadaur didn't really lose any power when Armegeddon was averted -- he just didn't get freed. Perhaps he needs a good sock in the, er, eye?
Shadow Knights -- yes, I'm going to try to run this one again. It actually TOTALLY folds into the campaign story arc following the Apocalypse.
Now that the Champions of Oerth have returned, life begins to return to normal. The Gods of the Dead agree to restore the cycle of life, but first, they must be appeased. Eight mortals and one immortal escaped the Halls of the Dead unpunished. While this action was critical for the survival of Oerth, Death must have its due. The Gods of the Dead choose eight DEAD mortals and one DEAD immortal to serve THEM without interference from other divine powers. These Shadow Knights will be given an opportunity to regain their lost lives by completing missions for the Gods of the Dead.
The first such quest -- take back those souls stolen by the Old One during the Apocalypse, and if you slaughter a bunch of orcs on the way, so much the better!
War Against Iuz and his Domain -- the Old One claimed a huge swath of territory. Unless someone (the PCs) do something, he'll keep it. This is my chance to run a scenario like the Greyhawk Wars. Risk, anyone?
Against the Giant -- yup, after 18 years, I'd like to do these again. And I'm even thinking about up-grading giants to the 2nd Edition specs too! This will be a CAMPAIGN, probably more than a year long, and likely span a number of regions (Highlands, Yeomanry, etc).
Highlands -- this will partially fold into the Giants! compaign, but there are a number of lower level scenarioes I'd like to do too.
War of the Pantheons -- the Greeks and the Egyptians have some issues. Heck, all of the pantheons are smarting a little from recent events. This is their chance to restore the "pecking order". True, chaos no longer reigns across the world, so it's NOT a time for wars and carnage, but rather for champions of the faiths to compete and prove whose followers are "better".
Return to Oerth -- many heroes left Oerth just before the Apocalypse started. Coming home will NOT be as easy and will almost certainly include a quest. You see, since these people weren't on Oerth during the changes, their bodies weren't changed to handle horsemouth. As a result, without magical aid, Oerth is no longer a healthy place for them...but then the gods are looking for champions...
Ptah's Quest -- the Opener of the Ways was robbed of an artifact (okay, through Doby's time-traveling stunt, he knew he needed to "let" Mikhail take it). But Oerth has been largely cut off from the various planes through this series of events. As the Master-Builder of the Cosmos, Ptah (and the rest of the Egyptian pantheon) wants to restore these connections, for the benefit of all...
Torsh -- even more so that Maneä and Eon, this is an unexplored world with the potential for YEARS of adventure. The Land of the Lost with portals, gates, and pre-historic magic.
Maneä -- a group of PCs now live there and I have some adventures for the water-world. For those who've never heard of this world, humans are a minority race with strange cultural divisions, there are no orcs, goblins, or hobbits, and much of the planet is covered in shallow islands -- think LeGuinn's EarthSea
Eon -- ditto, but even more PCs involved. This is a world much like Elizabethian England with a dusting of magic, technology, sophisticated-and-polite orcs, and menacing cloud giants.
