Shortly after dawn on March 10th, 616, Harbinder created a wormhole to a location near the party's final destination. The party hurried through the gate. Upon a arrival, however, each person spilled out of the gate, which in turn warped and bent into a oval.
Shay Shay (riding Calliope) and Taephyr each sipped a dose of invisibility potion and flew ahead to reconnoiter the area. Ahead lay a large swath of desert as well as a large sand storm. The pair flew over a band of gnolls, completely avoiding them. Later, however, the pair discovered a black pavillion that proved more dangerous...
Meanwhile, the rest of the group waited for the alchemist and lammasu's return. They tended the animals and rested, Harbinder meditating in order to regain her psionic strength quicker. In the distance, a gaunt horse rode out of the desert wilds. Flint went out to meet it. The horse bent down in order to allow Flint to mount, but he merely offered the beast food and led it back to the party. Upon arrival, Mahara identified the ghost horse for what it was and drove it off. Then Shay Shay returned...without Taephyr...
The pair had flown over the black pavillion, Taephyr zooming in for a closer look, and despite being invisible, the young lammasu was suddenly limned in faerie fire. Then several tiny crossbow bolts shot out of the tent. Wounded, Taephyr began to lose altitude. He landed without crashing, but Shay Shay couldn't save him as she was held by a mysterious assailant. It was only Shay Shay's telekinetic deflection and Calliope's aid which allowed the alchemist to survive. All she could do was go for help.
Harbinder created another wormhole, seriously depleating her remaining psionic strength. The group arrived near the black, silk pavillion, this time mostly leaving their mounts behind. The party attacked, with Isaac leading off with an arrow straight through the tent. For this, Shay Shay smacked him in the back of the head. Right on cue, several well-armed bugbear and a pair of displacer beasts stalked out to meet the heroes.
Shay Shay transformed the tent's silk into netting, blinding the drow within. Using the few moments grace, the heroes attacked, with Sabuto, Harbinder, and Flint smashing through the bugbear defenders. Isaac fired several arrows into the displacer beasts, but found himself in melee combat. Soon even Mahara and Haefesta were forced into melee after Harbinder was held.
The recovering drow battled furiously, nearly slaughtering the party. It was only with luck that no one died, although Mahara had to use his staff of curing twice. The drow were all males, followers of Ghaunadaur. "You are too late to save your world," sneared the priest before he died.
Inside the tent, the party found Taephyr, alive, but badly wounded after the drows' torture. "They wanted to know why we are here... They seemed worried we would ruin their master's plans..." whispered the wounded lammasu.
