The dao began the chess game, taunting Ling's ability to think clearly. Quickly, the heroes developed their pieces, with Sabuto and Isaac battling the other chess pieces. After fighting off pieces attempting to "take" them, the heroes found themselves as a distinct tactical advantage. However, before they could press that advantage, Issac found himself threatened by the dao himself. Rather than risk the half-orc's life, Ling accepted the dao's offer of beng his guest for a year and a day.
And then there were four...
Harbinder began to psionically tend Sabuto's wounds, but then a voice called for the heroes to surrender. They didn't and the sniper began firing heavy crossbow bolts at the group. Sabuto charged up into the hills where the sniper had cover, receiving one bolt in the leg for his troubles. Just as he reached the man, however, the stranger triggered a carefully staged avalanche, raining boulders and rubble on Sabuto and Harbinder and causing them to slide back to the base of the rise. Isaac, however, dodged to the side. As the half-orc moved in to attack, a beautiful woman attempted to backstab him. She failed and he took out the sniper. She fled, but ran into the now-invisible Flint. Flint got in her way while Isaac tried to grab her, but she managed to elude them. Right on cue, Harbinder used her mental powers to stun the woman repeatedly, long enough for Sabuto to take her down. The man attempted to attack again, but a single blow floored him.
The heroes took stock of the situation. Sabuto and Flint guessed the man was the holy warrior the party had been sent to rescue. Flint used his scroll of dispel magic to remove the sha'ir's charm spell, but is uncertain if it was successful. He and Harbinder tended to everyone's wounds and rested. They spoke with the captives in the afternoon, but didn't discover enough to be sure they were free of the sha'ir's influence.
The heroes continued their trek, with the new man, Inar, a very fair-skinned holy warrior with piercing sky-blue eyes in the front and on a leader held by Sabuto. Noor, a sultry tribesman beauty was on a similar leader held by Harbinder. The next day passed uneventfully, although Inar claimed to have helped the heroes avoid a sandworm's lair.
In the early morning hours of the 21st, the party was attacked again, this time by a pack of "half-men" or nasnas. They monsters nearly overwhelmed the sleeping party, almost killing Flint and Isaac when they attempted to fight them. Sabuto and Harbinder, however, managed to fight the strange creatures off. Again, Harbinder had to use her psionic healing to save Inar and Noor's lives.
In the morning, Inar explained there was an ogre outpost up ahead. These ogres were in thrall to the sha'ir, Shafazal, and were supported by a hill giant as well as a poweful human warrior. Now the heroes must decide what to do...
