On the morning of the 8th of April, 616 Common Year, the heroes (Flint, Issac, Herrod, Sabuto, Harbinder, Ling, and Subatai) packed up their tents and continued their way across the desert valley plains of the Furrowed Mountains. That evening, as the party slept, Harbinder and Subatai heard singing in the night air...then harpies attacked! Although the heroes had been sleeping, they made pretty quick work of the monsters. Herrod and Ari wandered off into the desert after one of the harpy's songs, but Ling managed to corral the pair of them.
That night the heroes got very little sleep. Hyenas had found the carcasses of the harpies and were enjoying a rude little feast...
Early on the following day, the heroes spied a massive, black efreet approaching. Flint greated the genie with due humility, but the efreet wished to play with the mortals. After repeatedly insulting them, he offered to compete against them, betting his treasure against theirs. The party politely refused and the efreet then command them out of HIS desert. Wishing to avoid a conflict, the party turned back on their path. The plan was to move around the efreet, but suddenly a wall of fire 20' high spanned the length of the valley. The heroes made camp and caught up on their sleep from the night before...
Near nightfall, the wall of fire went out and the heroes journeyed a short time at night, moving beyond where they had met the efreet.
The rest of their journey passed largely uneventfully until on the evening of the 12th, the group arrived at the last oasis before the Genie's Garden. There, they were welcomed by a small band of desert nomads curious about the affairs of the outside world. The party told the two dozen herdsmen the news of the Apocalypse and enjoyed their hospitality.
Just as the dinner was winding down and the heroes were preparing for sleep, Harbinder became alarmed. A psionist, she could not only feel but deflect unwanted mental intrusion. Someone had attempted to scan her mind! Within moments, the banquet and camp dissolved into ruins, as four rakshasa attempted to charm the heroes. Luckily, only Isaac succumbed to their magics...
Battle was joined, with lighting bolts hurtling across the oasis. In moments, both the hirelings and half the heroes' mounts were dead. Flint was wounded, but on his feet. And Harbinder's magical items all vaporized. But she returned the favor by psionically blasting two of the rakshasa and completely removing them from the fight. One rakshasa managed to use a stinking cloud to protect the bodies of her fallen comrades and battle was joined. Herrod and Sabuto kept one busy while the rest of the party dealt with Isaac (now charmed to kill Ling) and the other rakshasa. Sabuto's strikes managed to deal quite a bit more damage than what was expected (thank you, Apocalypse) and with a successful backstab from Subatai, one of the females died. About the same time, Harbinder used her ego whip to break another, elephant-headed female's morale, sending her fleeing into the desert night.
About then the male stood back up, having recovered from Harbinder's mutliple psionic attacks. He made ready to attack, but another ego whip sent him fleeing as well. Harbinder then used her psionically-enhanced strength to remove the last rakshasa from the stinking cloud so the heroes could kill it. In short order, this evil spirit made flesh died as well.
And right on cue, the male returned, blasting the heroes with a fireball. Herrod and Subatai dropped, both horribly burned. Now invisible thanks to a sip of potion, Flint began to tend to the wounded bodies. Meanwhile, Sabuto and Ling battled the male, with Harbinder joining them. He fell fairly quickly, but before he did, the last female returned.
She cast a mirror image as she did, chaos-enhanced so it also gave her the benefits of a blur. Meanwhile, while she was at full strength, Flint could barely stand, Herrod, Subatai, and Isaac were down, Sabuto badly wounded, and Harbinder nearly out of psionic strength. The psi engaged the Hindu spirit, buying Ling and Sabuto time to finish the male rakshasa. But the remaining, elephant-headed fiend's spells proved vicious. Her burning hands dropped Harbinder and nearly killed Sabuto. It was only with amazing luck that the heroes managed to kill this last rakshasa. Flint used a magic missile to disrupt her images and Ling used a blessed crossbow bolt to shattered her ribs. Helpless on the ground, the rakshasa could not defend herself as the party ended her corporeal existence.
Buy the morning of the 13th of April, the party had tended their wounds and healed a bit.
