While this thread might seem to below on the the Thursday night board, I figured I'd get feedback from other players who know Harbinder but are more likely to read this board.
Okay, here's the problem -- Harbinder ate the Apple of Insight. As a result, she can now "put together" any and all information she has, effectively allowing her to use player knowledge with regard to her current situation, so long as she can justify it. Well, the problem is that although Harbinder is in Zakhara, she has remained in touch with Nanarch through the whole Apocalypse and is aware of the major plotlines on the Flanese. Moreover, in addition to being a confidant of Pope Hazem, she is also aware of the prophesy about her brother, Rajinder, as well as the identity of the New Heroes with him. Clearly, he is on a pivotal path involved with saving Oerth from destruction. In contrast, Harbinder knows that what she is doing is relatively fruitless; it will, in no way, prevent Armegeddon.
So, now Harbinder is in Qadib, the City of Wands, in the company of a pair of djinni. I can REALLY see her ditching her current party in order to return to the Flanese and help Raj. Not only would she be protecting her baby brother, but also assisting the New Heroes in saving the world (thanks to Narumi's know history spell, Raj (and therefore, Nanarch and Harbinder) know who Autumn and Mikos are. Moreover, now that Sindari and Andy have arrived... Well, clearly something is afoot.
So, as the player being true to the character, I'm torn. Harbinder would do what is effective, not adventure for the "fun" of it. Rajinder's adventure is, as near as Harbinder can tell, THE most important quest to accomplish on Oerth. Unfortunately, Harbinder a) wants to get Inar brough back, b) is carrying the party's ring of three wishes, c) is on the wrong continent, and d) really shouldn't be allowed on the Shattered Circle game because she's twice the level of anyone else. On top of all that, Harbinder is really one of the party mainstays, due to her healing power and Paul needs to add a new PC to Thursday, with one choice being a potent healer (who I said should never play with Harbinder).
I'm stuck. I'm not sure what to do. I really tempted to have Harbinder at least attempt to get back to the West, because a) she has NEVER bought into her current mission, b) the success of this mission has almost no bearing on the fate of the world, and c) Harbinder has always gone where she can do the most good.
What I see happening is something like this:
* Harbinder tells Dilirum (the female djinn would be the one spending time with Harbinder) what she's realized and what she believes she needs to do.
* Dilirum's major focus is the destruction of the Astroglobe -- in exchange for that service, she and Namareed will happily transport Harbinder to the Flanese and even aid her in her mission IFF the party is okay with that.
* Harbinder would then present this to the rest of the party, with the understanding that she's only going to continue on with this party to the Genies' Forge in order to gain the djinni couple's aid and ultimately leave for the West where she believes she can help her brother and the other New Heroes (she would not share those exact details as her mind cannot be easily picked, but...).
Like Shay Shay, I see Harbinder leaving the party because of her own character development -- she's not the type to let someone else down when she has the tools to help.
So, I guess the end result is that Harbinder will be leaving the Thursday night / Arabia party at some point in the near future -- after the Astroglobe is destroyed. This will, at that point, leave the party much weaker with regard to healing, but they will have already achieved their mission for Dilirum and Namareed (and sorta for Kamar). If the group wants to continue on to explore the ruins of Al-Anwahr, that's up to them -- Harbinder intuitively knows that the Kingdom of Lions will NOT reveal the outcome of the Apocalypse, but rather is some sort of elaborate plot on the part of the lich-and-former-king, Azaltin.
Suggestions? Input? Ideas?
