While Laurel is slowly recovering from her wounds in the village of Hommlet, the heroes plan to return to the moat house and complete their mission.
Gathered in the Welcome Wench Inn, River, Trillian (with Flora), Soren, Jellie, and Doby are eating breakfast. In wander Prince Trillian of the gnomes along with his neice, Ruby. Trillian speaks with others in the inn, including Murph, while Ruby becomes enamoured with a kitten, waiting at the door for her uncle to finish chatting. Suddenly, in rolls the young gnome's severed head...!
Bullywug are attacking the village! The heroes quickly mobilize, saving all the nearby town-folk and slaying the eight invaders and catching sight of others fleeing. Giving chase, the party (now including Murph) came across several downed bullywug and a human priest of Angellus. As the heroes moved to investigate, a praying mantis warrior sprung out and attacked! Only barely did the party survive as one by one they were paralyzed by the thri-kree toxin. Ultimately is was Murph's spear that brought the beast down.
The group continued on (with the new priest), tracking the bullywug back to their lair, an abandoned temple at the edge of the river. The structure began sinking into th mire many years ago and is now partially submerged. The group entered, quickly overcoming the six bullywug in the first room. The group then went about systematically searching the ruins.
Unfortunately, instead of bullywug, the heroes found themselves fighting aquatic spiders the size of St bernards! Three sank their fangs into Soren in the initial clash...using the last of her sorcery, she blasted out multiple volleys of magic missiles before succumbing to the venom. River was also bitten but managed to slay his spider. Jellie used illusions to help keep the spiders busy while Murph jumped into combat. Doby's arrows managed to seriously wound the creatures and with River and Murph the heroes triumphed. But Soren slipped into a venom-induced coma. It was only the combined skill of Trillian and the cleric of Angellus, as well as all of their healing spells, which saved the girl.
A repeat of their previous adventure, River carefully searched the ruins the group had already been through, finding a potion of healing that restored Soren to consciouness. Licking their wounds, the heroes returned to Hommlet.
The next morning River's strength had returned, but Soren was barely able to get out of bed. The heroes decided to rest in town to recover our strength and heal from our wounds. For their part, Calmert and Terjon also offered some healing.
But the threat of the bullywug remain and it is only a matter of time before they attack again...! The priests of St. Cuthbert will heal the heroes to full strength if they return to the monster's lair on the 8th (although Soren will be far from fully recovered from the spider venom).
