The heroes rented a common room in the Waterside Hostel of Nulb. There, they met back up with Murph, who had followed them from Hommlet. In the morning, the group used most of their healing magics to regain their strength and, following Jellie's plan, decided to observe the trail between the town and the Temple for the day.
It was a bright and sunny morning. The party was halfway between the Nulb and the Temple, looking for a good place to camp and watch the road. That's when another party approached from the Temple...and unfortunately, only Jellie and Trillian saw them at first.
Trillian shouted a warning and used his cloak to disappear into the foliage. Jellie pulled Soren along to get help from Artani and Sindari. Meanwhile River and Murph only heard noise back on the path.
Lareth the drow cast a darkness in the sky, bathing the region in shadows. Elmo charged forward, spying Trillian and nearly gutting him with one axe-swing. Rannos charged after Jellie and Soren, followed by a werewolf!
Murph saved Trillian, giving him a chance to sleep Elmo. River moved to attack the priest of Ghaunadaur, but was held. Meanwhile, Jellie color sprayed the lycanthrope, sending the beast into a coma. Rannos backstabbed Soren, but managed to mostly botch the attempt. Unfortunately, Soren started to sag under the blows and Jellie's spells were no help.
Murph and Trillian were no match for Lareth and his man-at-arms. Then, in the forest, the werewolf leapt back up, biting Soren and dropping her. Things looked bleak. Which was a perfect cue for Jellie to again blast the lycanthrope just as Artani's swords nearly finished Rannos. The thief ran, with the gypsy on his heels. Just then, however, Murph and Trillian called for help. Sindari, moved to finish the werewolf, but could manage to administer the coup de grace. Meanwhile, Trillian began saving lives and tending the wounded.
Murph engaged Rannos while Artani moved past him to Ghaunadaur's servant. Jellie cast light from a scroll, disrupting the drow's darkness. Artani's blades severed his leg. Rannos ran for his life.
Now it was Artani's turn to faulter. His swords couldn't breach the drow's fine chainmail, even though the priest lay stunned on the ground. The drow quaffed a potion in order not to bleed to death. Artani managed another cut, but shallow this time. Meanwhile, Trillian bandaged and healed Soren while Sindari continued to try to finish the werewolf.
"Ghaunadaur grant me the strength and power to destroy these enemies!" raged Lareth. With that, his leg reattached and his body was limned with a mauve glow. The priest faerie fired Artani and his tentacle rod dropped the gypsy warrior. Then the werewolf stood up. The tables had turned...
Just then Soren flashed out a pair of magic missiles, dropping the lycanthrope. This allows Sindari to charge the drow. His tentacles lashed out, but finally her blade drove deep into his body, killing him. Exhausted the heroes bound their wounds and headed back to Nulb.
In town, the heroes discovered that Rannos had hijacked their light war-horse (originally his). The group loaded up the wounded, including Elmo, the now-headless drow, and his man-at-arms, onto the horses and decided to head back to Hommlet. Unfortunately, the heroes were a mount shy, so they visited the town smith who also had a stable.
The smith was warry, evasive and suspicious. The large, powerfully-built man asked many questions. Finally, however, the party learned that the smith was actually Otis, older brother of Elmo. He was in town undercover and offered to take care of all three unconscious men. He also gave the heroes a note to give to Byrnie.
The group rode back to Hommlet and met with Byrnie, Terjon, Calmert, and Jaroo. They were healed and advised by the group. River rode with Soren and Laurel back to Verbobonc for healing from the Arch-Bishop there, bearing letters of commendation from Byrnie and the Temple of Cuthbert. The others, meanwhile, stayed in Hommlet and rested, spending most of their time either at the Keep or the Welcome Wench Inn. Many days passed and late on the 19th of April, the three returned from the capitol.
