The heroes (River, Trillian, Soren, Jellie, Doby, and Katarina) were joined by Elmo, the son of the town elder. They returned to the moat-house, where they made very short work of the few monsters that remained. River managed to trigger several magical traps, but ultimately found a strange mauve with yellowish-green stone...
And he knew his life's purpose was achieved...
"Artec?" was the only word his mind heard when the strange, orange, mind-bending, burning eye looked out of the stone at him...
And in that instant he saw Artec, his spiritual twin, standing with his friends in a far away place. But more importantly, Artec saw River as well...
Then reality returned. Elmo, who had also caught a glimpse of the eye, lay in a coma. Fleeing with the brawny man's body, the heroes were leaving the moat-house when they were ambushed. The drow cleric, Lareth, had returned with Mary Death and four other minions. The battle was joined...
A sleep from Trillian took out the two lesser minions while a color spray from Jellie foiled both Mary Death and another, more-potent foe. Unfortunately, Soren was no match for Lareth and she quickly fell. River and Doby riddled one of the men with arrows and he fled, only to have Flora tear open his leg. The other potent henchman rescued the first and both fled into the waiting arms of Byrnie's Badgers (later, however, the party learned many of the Badgers died and both men ultimately escaped).
By this point, Mary Death lay dead, but most of the rest of the party was either unconsious or held. Jellie tried to save the day, but was commanded to surrender. It was just dumb luck that her torch brushed the spilled oil...
Jellie managed to stall for time, allowing River to recover. The illusionist recovered the bodies of Soren and Trillian, but not Doby, Elmo, or the clearly-dead Katarina.
Finally, Jellie confronted the cleric. The drow levitated Doby's body over the steps of the moat-house. Meanwhile, River went for help. Just as the priest was about to dash the lifeless elf's body to the group, a half-elf bathed in a pearly-white glow slowly floated over the ruins in time to grab Doby and break his fall. Sindari joined the party. Together, the heroes fled back to Hommlet, where they touched bases with the Temple of Saint Cuthbert, the Druid of the Grove, and Byrnie the mage. With one dead and one missing, they planned their next move.
