The New Heroes (River, Trillion, Soren, Jellie, Doby and Murph) met two new potential party members, Zert and Katarina. Zert tried to pass himself off as a fighter worshipping Cuthbert, but his evil alignment gave him away. After the group brought him to Terjon and Calmert, they met Katarina, a cleric of Lydia. Later that morning, the heroes left for the moat-house.
In the moat-house, the group encountered some resistance, first in the form of an ochre jelly. While half the party battled the blob, the other half realized they were being tailed by a mage. The party and mage exchanged words, then sleep spells. After Trillian and Jellie woke up Murph and Katarina, they tied up the mage and left him in the moat-house tower for later questioning.
Meanwhile back downstairs, the heroes began to explore the cellars in earnest. They soon found a horde, a veritable army, of goblins. After slaughtering almost twenty, the group bound their wounds. Then came a half dozen bugbear through a secret door. River managed to hold the entryway, slaughtering many. After another brief respite, another horde of goblins slipped through another secret door, this time lead by a woman in spiked, black platemail going by the name Mary Death. River again held the hall and hit her once, but it was Soren's magic missiles that drove her off; a soft, melodic voice from the rear of the goblin horde told her to retreat. Then came a group of troglodytes followed by a wave of goblins. Trillian's sleep spells allowed River to force his way forward (after Murph and Jellie's illusionary ogre rescued him from being held) when the last of the goblins fled. River caught sight of a male drow, but he fled. Giving chase, River caught up with the goblins, who in turn chased him back to the party (à la Han Solo in the first Star Wars movie). Then, leading a charge with most of the other heroes, River, Doby, Soren, and Trillian made short work of the goblins, although their drowic master managed to use the brutes as living shields and escape. A glyph of holding persuaded the heroes not to give chase...
The heroes bound their wounds and surveyed the cellar. Nearly 40 goblins, 9 troglodytes, 6 bugbear, and several hobgoblins lay dead. The heroes were nearly out of spells, so they turned back to Hommlet. En route they encountered a pair of brigands who tried to rob them. When Katarina asked questions, they shot her with their heavy crossbows in cold blood. That about when their own blood started to spill; clearly out-matched by the heroes, the leader of the bandits tried to feign mistaken identity, "what? You're not evil bandits!"
The heroes triumphantly returned to Hommlet and spent the night.
