Black Robe transported the party to a village some 30 miles north-northwest of Tovag Baragu. There, Pigñolé, Ziyi, Ichi, Torr, Verna, and Cindari were charged with protecting the Lakota peoples there from harm. Chief Bluewolf assigned a young woman, Newmoon, and her brother, Stormcloudsrising, to act as the heroes' interpreters.
Pigñolé learned a bit about the locals, even putting a group to work making nets. Verna, meanwhile, found herself being wooed by Stormcloudsrising (after she did his laundry). The young warrior tried to have Ziyi make the group dinner, but the acrobat challenged the Lakota to a trial-by-combat, loser makes dinner. She completely humiliated him by taking him out with a single slap...which put the boy in his place!
In the first evening, while on patrol, Ziyi saw something. She and Cindari went to investigate, while Verna and Torr tried to keep up. The two part-elves encountered, chased, and ultimately battled and slew a strange, demon-like monster with acid for blood which dissolved once killed. In the process, one of Ziyi's silver swords was ruined.
The evening of the next day, while all whole group save Pigñolé and Ichi were on patrol, FOUR byahkee started stalking the Lakota encampment from above. Again, Ziyi noticed the creatures. She winged one, but was the taken out by its psionic attack. Torr managed to nail another byahkee before the second creature could care off Ziyi's unconscious form. Instead the monster intentionally landed on her!
Verna and Cindari charged to help, but both the star-elf and paladin were now taken out by another psionic assault. Verna began hammering the byakhee while Stormcloudsrising ran for help. Miraculously, Verna resisted all mental assaults and soon Ziyi joined her in battle.
Meanwhile, word of the attack had reached Ichi and Pigñolé. Unfortunately, the little gnome couldn't keep up, and just as Ichi charged in and helped finish a byakhee, Pinenut found himself alone and under attack! Another byakhee (after dropping a poor old woman from 180') had swooped down to take out the bard! But the tough musician used his halberd to ground the monster. Stormcloudsrising charged to help along with other braves, but most were dropped by a single, psionic attack. Clearly outmatched, this last byakhee teleported to safety.
The next morning a contingent of centaurs under command of Firebow and Greatoak arrived. They wanted the heroes to accompany them to Tovag Baragu to prevent any more assaults; only the village the heroes had defended had managed to avoid numerous losses the previous night. Together, the party and six centaurs (and six pinto mustangs on loan from Chief Bluewolf) took the two hour trip to the Stone Circle.
There, the party found little and followed Pigñolé's wise council to rest during the day and stand on watch as the sunset. The group spend MANY hours within the inner ring of stones and then about an hour before midnight, they were attacked by wave after wave of 6' tall, 11' long insect men.
The creatures seems particularly interested in Cindari and Ziyi, but battled all of the party's forces. Quickly, however, it became clear that these creatures were quite a bit more potent than the centaurs. Of the six, only Bluebelle remained on her hooves. All the rest were dropped by a combination of wounds and poison. Indeed, Pigñolé was also poisoned, but Verna used a scroll of neutralize poison since the dosage might have been fatal for the little gnome.
In the battle, Ziyi did well and Cindari cut a path of destruction until she was paralysed. Just after Torr cut down the second to last, Ichi struck the last one and succumbed to the venom.
So, shortly after midnight after searching and tending the wounded, only Pigñolé (badly wounded), Ziyi (also badly wounded), Verna (pretty much fine), Torr (also fine), and Bluebelle were on their feet with the other seven paralyzed in the inner circle of stones...
