Claudia, Ziyi, Ichi, Torr, Verna, and Ulaanbaatar decided to press on, after exhausting all of Dion's cure light wounds spells. While the group waited for Torr to change into the magical chain mail the heroes had recovered, they were attacked by a host of ogres, gnolls, and hobgoblin archers...!
Ziyi was nearly surprised and Ulaanbaatar only managed to invoke her wand as the gnolls and ogres attacked. The blast fried six of the creatures, but she was taken out at the same time. Ichi charged in to support Ziyi as Verna was attacked from behind (barely managing to turn around in time!). Claudia, meanwhile, was held up helping Torr get his armor on, joining the fray only at the last moment. Things looked bleak, as the ogre leader smashed Ziyi twice with his bullova. He then smashed Ichi and only through the combined team-work of the two were they able to bring the ogre down without anyone dying. Unfortunately, that was not before Ziyi was critically wounded and lay bleeding. For each too it was his swan-song as he was soon overwhelmed by gnolls. Claudia fell soon after, leaving only Verna and (finally in his chainmail) Torr. Torr used his limited fire resistance to buy some time, drinking a potion of speed and saving first Ulaanbaatar and then Claudia. Verna, meanwhile, was critically wounded twice, but used magic to remain on her feet. Finally, the combination of the burning oil and Verna's maces gave Torr a chance to brave the hobgoblin archers and join the melee. Narrowly, the heroes survived the battle and exhausted the very last of their magics healing those wounded. Limping, they headed back to Nulb and Hommlet.
En route the group spied a small group of wolves stalking them. The beasts did not shy away from arrow fire so Ulaanbaatar made short work of them with another lightning bolt from her wand. Verna and Torr took out the stragglers.
Back in Nulb the heroes went to the Waterfront Hostel. The barman gave Claudia some lip and Ulaanbaatar pulled out her wand and blasted him. He survived and the bar was (amazingly) largely undamaged, but the heroes, after a major argument with the wizardess, left quickly. Ulaanbaatar slipped away in the confusion and wasn't seen since.
The group camped out about an hour outside of Nulb. There, they met a man named Lann who healed some of their wounds, warned them of a group of bandits on their trail, and asked them to recover a few items from the Temple.
In the morning, the group reached Hommlet and spent the night there. They bought goodberries from Jaroo, rested, recovered their strength and took a swim in the stream. In the morning, the group headed back to Nulb, again camping about an hour outside of town. While they were chatting (discussing Torr's history), the heroes discovered they were being watched by TC and Malok. After Torr calmed down, TC contacted Moorak, who then used his own spells on the group and watched them overnight...
...which was a bad thing for the six werewolves that struck in the middle of the night. The poor beasties never stood a chance. In the morning of the 23rd, the group gathered their things and left for Nulb and the Temple of Elemental Evil...
