After their defeat, the heroes spend a week in Hommlet recovering from the battle. There they play with the enchanted flask they find, and discover it can pour forth multiple potions of healing. On 616 / 10 / 11, Ziyi, Pigñolé, Ichi, Torr, Verna, Ulaanbaatar, Cindari and joined by Moonlight and Ezeki on the trip back to the Temple of Elemental Evil.
The first day out, the group encountered three owlbears, which they made short work of. That evening, they were awaken by and then battled a pair of manticore. The creatures didn't stand a chance once they woke up Ulaanbaatar; the Suel wizardess' lightning bolts blew them out of the sky.
In the morning of 616 / 10 /12, the group headed to the Temple. En route, they encountered a family of wild boards. Although Verna wanted bacon, Moonlight spoke to the creatures, fed them each a goodberry, and avoided combat.
Later, at the actual ruins of the Temple, the heroes headed for the tower they had captured weeks earlier. While passing by the former orchard, suddenly arrows began whizzing into the group, hitting several heroes. Hobgoblin bowmen were attacking! Cindari led a charge with Ziyi, Ichi, and Verna, but before they arrived, Moonlight had entangled nearly all of the hobgoblins! The two that escaped were no match for the fighters.
Then the group saw that not all the gargoyles on the Temple were ornamental any longer! First five, then several more in waves swept down on the party. Ziyi got ripped up, while Cindari slashed her way to the rescue. Torr kept several busy, shielding Moonlight. Ezeki tried a burning hands to help out, but had his spine ripped out of the FRONT of his chest for the trouble. Ulaanbaatar used her wand to destating effect, blasting several gargoyles. Meanwhile, Verna's sundazzles blinded two of the creatures at a time, preventing them from joining the fray (one even crashed into the ground and hurt itself!).
That when the group spied the horde of goblins on the edge of the orchard surrounding the small cyclops. *BOOM!* One fireball later and all the baddies within range were a smouldering mass...Ulaanbaatar then wiped her hands and kept blasting with her wand...
Unfortunately, the noise and explosion brought the rest of the cyclopes. One more (with goblins), then two more arrived. Each time Ulaanbaatar hammered them with lighting bolts, but finally they (and the remaining gargoyles) reached the party. A spear and a gargoyle killed Ulaanbaatar. The heroes acted as well-designed machine then, freeing up Verna so she could attempt to heal the Suel wizardess with a scroll before her spirit left her body, but although the group kept the monsters busy, the half-orcish priest didn't quite speak the scroll correctly and the spell failed.
After finally crushing the last of the monsters, the heroes retreated. They spent the night at their campsite, where they were attacked in the night by a pack of jackelweres. The creatures managed to put Moonlight into a magical sleep, but the other heroes were too strong. The beasts did manage to nearly kill Ziyi before Pigñolé's volley of magic missiles started taking them out!
On 616 / 10 / 13, late in the day, the heroes reached Hommlet. There, they spent the night and met up with Black Robe in the morning. The Lakota shaman agreed to raise the fallen wizardess in exchange for a magical item from Cindari and Verna (each), as well as a quest...a trip to explore the ruins of Tovag Baragu...
