ok, so the party drid (thats spelled wrong) found a gem that glowed. he didn't whant to toch it becuse he thought it might hold a deamon. so the party palidin walked up and pocketed it. then when asked what it was he said, "nothing". some how it is now know that it is a gem of 3 wishes. the palidin also sighned a party contrackt saying that all non-worthiss/bling items would be diced for. do you think that he should lose his palidinship over this act???

Howdy Aaron,
Let me make sure I have the background correct on this:
A paladin signed a contract with his party that all valuables would be diced for. Then, the group's druid found a gem he didn't want to touch. The paladin was daring and picked up the gem anyway. Now that the paladin knows it's a Wish-item, he's renigging on his agreement. Is that correct?
Well, given that a paladin must at ALL times be lawful and treat his word as his bond (in most cultures), then the paladin has violated one of this two most important tenets and has now willingly violated his paladinhood. A nice DM would remind the player of this requirement, and only if the player insisted, strip the character of his/her paladin-status. The paladin may recover his/her previous abilities by getting atoned which ALSO includes a quest.
This is one of those few cases where culture allows no wiggle-room; a paladin must at all times be both Good and Lawful. Daring and bravado aren't an issue, nor is risk-taking. The paladin could ASK the party to be nice, since he gambled the item wasn't demon-infested, but that's not the real issue. The paladin MUST keep his word, regardless; he can ask for his companions to be kind, but certainly CANNOT insist upon it, given that he signed a contract (heck, even swearing to those terms would be good enough for a paladin!).

Or perhaps he is just pretending to be a paladin. Better ask for credentials.
