Heroes (Joshua, Scout, Viktor StrongArm, and Gilgamesh) rest for about an hour in the nighthag's hovel. From there they realize that the whole town is crawling with roving bands of ghouls, typically in bands of around a half dozen, but sometimes much larger. A few of the ghouls are freakishly large, as if originally ogres. In addition, there are all sorts of slimes, oozes, and insects. They free Sarah, a brownie mage, who joins them.
The group skirts the edge of the woods, heading north and toward the graveyard. They battle a few ghouls en route, but until they reach a temple, the resistance is light. At the temple, however, the heroes battle several waves of small demons, ghouls including an ogre and a gun-man ghoul, gargoyles, and a gray ooze. Other than Scout, the rest of the fighters take a pounding, with two wolf pups slain and the pack playing a decisive role. Viktor is paralyzed and Ten Bears nearly killed.
