The heroes (Conan, Saundra, Starglow, and Erik with Faust) continue exploring the roots of one of the ancient towers. As the heroes descend the metal spiral staircase, the darkness around them grows and color fades.
Conan battles a pair of shades alone, both a warrior and a monk. Then the heroes moves to another room where they see a gem floating above a crystal spindle with runes orbiting it. The runes summon four owlbear, carnivorous apes, minotaur, and ice toad guardians. Later Saundra touches the gem stone and is connected with the vestige of a powerful, sentient magical gem. The group explored many room along the way, including four giant badgers. Later the group fought and quickly slew an umber hulk before reaching the center tower wall, but no key in sight....
