The party (Connel MacHamish, Gabriel, Gimble Gemnose, Gretle, Stalking Wolf, Ramson, Saundra, Ramalon, Adora, and Lily) find themselves trying to figure out who murdered Monique d'Amberville before finding themselves in a strange dream sequence that's all too real! The heroes are still in the Château, but it's different, more mundane, smaller, more rustic. They learn that they're now on the world of Laterre, the homeworld of the d'Ambervilles.
Here the group witnesses a scene between a nine year old Étienne and his father, Michel. Michel becomes a hill giant and the heroes save him from this monster. They then meet Veronique, the blonde woman sleeping with the unicorn in the forest area of the Mist version of the Château before returning to the wedding Château.
The heroes explore a bit and Gretel splits off to work in the alchemical lab. The wedding of Magdelène and André-David happens, although the priest, Simon, burns to death. The smoke triggers another dream sequence, this time at a battle with a 17 year old Étienne. The heroes fight other humans on the world of Laterre to protect Étienne but they are unable to save his father, who is slain. The group then talks Étienne into NOT butchering the captives or otherwise executing people.
