The party (Connel MacHamish, Gabriel, Gimble Gemnose, Gretle, Stalking Wolf, Ramson, Saundra, Ramalon, Adora, and Lily) finds themselves in some dream-like world, clearly another world, in a place called Glantri, although Connel and Lily aren't there. There, they meet a strange short man, Petit Singe, and he asks to employ them for his mistress at a wedding. He claims the group's involvement was prophesized and they will be rewarded by Dame Camille d'Amberville.
The group journeys to Château Sylaire which turns out to be VERY similar to the Château in the Mist. A wedding is planned and the group meets many of the eccentric Amberville family members. Dame Camille is the matriarch and has taken to feigning senility. She's had a vision that the party can help her save her (dead) son, Étienne. The heroes are tasked with posing as regular servants and keeping an eye out. The group then joins the others at the wedding of Magdelène d'Amberville and André-David de Forêt. While wandering through the festivities, the heroes encounter both Connel and Lily, both of whom seem integrated into the dream-story. Connel recalls his old friends, but recently completed an epic quest and he was invited here to share stories of his exploits. Lily is a distant member of the family and other than a sense of friendship with Adora, doesn't seem to recall the others, though she does seem to know Connel a little.
Ramalon dances with Monique, Lily's master and daughter of Richard and Isidore. She asks him to meet her later at her room. When he does, he finds her dead -- encased in amber....
