Heroes: Aeronne the Paladin of Athena, Ichi the Monk, Mikhail the Psi, Tiana the Water Priestess, Malok the Mage, Low Dog the Totemic Warrior, and Tolus the Fighter
Last we left our heroes, they were in the large throne room where they defeated the high priest of the shrine. They had found a passage to what they assumed were the priest's personal quarters. Malok casts detect invisibility to see if anything else shows up or is hidden. He finds a secret door to the south by the entrance. Opting for this room, the group enters, finding a door on the opposite side and four sarcophagi in the room. They examine the sarcophagi and Tiana becomes excited when she sees one that looks like a clerical tomb. She tries to open it, but it is too heavy. She tries to get the strong people to open it, but they say they want to open the mage looking one first. Relenting, she stands back and lets them do it. They manage to lift the lid, but trigger a double strength ice storm. Smirking, Tiana watches them all get hit with icy blasts and whispers I told you so. The group peers nto the open coffin, finding a skeleton wearing a beautiful silver diadem with a perfect star sapphire. After a slight hesitation, Tolus grabs the diadem and puts it in his bag. Tiana then ushers the group to open the priestly tomb. THey lift it up, setting off a chain lightning spell. Low Dog and Ichi get zapped but the rest of the party narrowly misses getting hurt. Tiana casts a healing spell on Ichi as she feels slightly guilty he took damage over her request, but receives a lecture from Mikhail on how to properly heal. She returns an icy stare.
The group decides to not risk any more traps and Tiana opens the door to the south. It looks like a summoning room with the symbol of chaos painted on the ground with silver braziers at each point. Thinking a summoning trap may be here, Tiana shuts the door and tells the rest not worth it. The group then debates on what to do next, do they confront the statues that Mikhail said seemed to fix something when Tiana came out with the mace and the statue disappeared or to the assumed priest's chambers. They opt for the statues and move to the obsidian statue that took wisdom and intelligence from Tiana before. She sees a portal in the shape of the statue while the rest see the statue. The party urges Tiana to go into the room to take the cloak. Tiana really does not want to, but the possibility of great treasure lures her back in. When in the room looking at the dusty cloak, she casts moment reading. She gets Tempted by Avarice and realizes this is not a good thing to touch. She returns stating it is not good for her to touch it and emphasizes part of the trial for the mace was that she was a priestess. This is not a priestly item. The group convinces her to go back and use Mikhails TK wand so she does not actually touch it. She agrees, sighs, and then goes back in. She raises the wand, but then realizes something. The portal closes once the item passes through the portal. It is impossible for her to not touch it, move it through the portal, and not be trapped there. She puts the wand away, sighs, and brings out her mace. Steeling herself against what may come, she hooks the cloak on the mace. She doesn't get a good grip and it falls to the floor. She also sees 10 shadows rise up around her. Realizing she is screwed if she doesn't come up with something fast, she pleads with her mace that if it has any power to help, please save her. Several shadows hit her draining her strength. She desperately clings to the mace as it starts to glow. She feels something inside her change, but she also sees the shadows flee from the mace to the sides of the room. She grabs the cloak and instantly feels a damaging backlash from the item. She releases the cloak and flees from the room back to the party. She comes back angry. She explains what happened in a slight hysteria. Ichi offers her some gems as recompense. She says the only thing to do now is destroy the statue. Aeronne and Ichi go to attack, but Aeronne is slowed down by a vision of the memory watching his parents be ripped apart by the mindless undead when he was a child. Ichi gets some attacks in while the statue plays mind games with him. Ichi staves off the mental illusions as Aeronne steels himself and attacks. The statue touches Ichi, reaching into him. Ichi feels wisdom and intelligence drain from him. Malok blasts the statue with improved magic missiles to assist the fighters as their attacks seem to be not as effective. They do manage to destroy the statue and loot several pieces of the obsidian for their troubles. They then move to the mage. She starts pleading with the party to free her. Aeronne, annoyed with the chatter, attacks the statue, catching the statue and the party off guard. He gets a free attack in while Ichi prepares himself to assist. She tries to touch Aeronne after a volley of magic missiles, but he easily avoids it. Afgter several blows, the statue pleads again for her freedom, stating she wishes to be an ally. Aeronne silences her with a final blow and they loot pieces of her statue. All that is left is the warrior statue. Aeronne and Tolus charge the statue and after the first blows, the warrior tries to kill Aeronne with a death spell. Aeronne resists. The statue then tries to kill Tolus with the same spell to no effect, but attacks Aeronne with his sword. He makes contact, slicing off his left arm at the elbow. Screaming in pain, Aeronne is pulled back by Low Dog who takes his place in the fighting line. They bring down the statue, looting pieces of it too. They bandage up Aeronne and Ichi helps place his shield against his back and grabs Aeronne's dismembered arm.
Mikhail confirms the portals are all closed in here now and they move to the throne room again and the presumed priest's quarters. They find a hallway lit by torches. Malok detects a pit trap at the end of the hallway. Tiana stone shapes the trap shut and opens the door. She feels something go off, but she shrugs off the magical attack and the party moves into the room. It is a bedchamber filled with riches. It is so oppulant that even Tiana is impressed. A bed covered in rich furs, a desk, and a wardrobe are in this room. Tiana searches the wardrobe for fine robes she can take, finding three that fit her fancy with equally impressive belts. She puts them away and returns to the room. THere is no other door. COnfused, they start to look around. Tolus tries to move the wardrobe and finds it stuck as well as the bed. Tiana gets an idea and has Malok search the inside of the wardrobe, finding a secret door. He mentions something about hearing voices, but has Tolus open the door. They find three skeletons in a small room hidden by the secret door. Creeped out by Malok's comments about the voices, Tiana smashes the skeletons to dust. Tiana asks Malok to see if there are any doors here and he finds one and it opens. Tiana enters a small antechamber and sits before a coral door. She admires the door and makes note of it. SHe then tries to push it open and realizes it wont. She gets an idea, takes out the Scepter of Chaos and taps the door. It opens freely allowing the party inside.
As the party enters, they are blasted with sensory overload. Lights, colors smells, and touches all confuse the party. They try to gather their senses. How will the party overcome this new assault by the chaotic forces?
