Heroes: Aeronne the Paladin of Athena, Ichi the Monk, Mikhail the Psi, Tiana the Water Priestess, Malok the Mage, Low Dog the Totemic Warrior, and Tolus the Fighter
The party finds themselves in the maze of the Escher stairs. They are detected by three vulture lions that attack. The layout of the field of battle confuses the party, but they seem ineffective and the party takes them down with little to no problem, frustrating a god of chaos that has been watching from afar. The party gets through the pathways of chaos and find themselves in a hall with three dorrs. One to the left, one to the right, and one at the end of the hall. Tiana chooses the door on the left and finds a hall of fire with a golden door on the opposite side. A path over the fire the only path. Tiana flies over the path, avoiding a possible fall altogether. She reaches the door and opens it to swirling chaos. She slams it shut and turns around to find a being of pure fire approaching her. Ichi runs to her rescue and manages to distract the being as Tiana flies around it. They flee to the door and slam it shut, blocking the being from following them. They then open the door that was on the right side of the hallway. Hundreds of bugs move around the room with several fire beetles lighting up the room. The group finds an old man at a desk writing papers. He asks how the war against law is going. Tiana responds that it is unending as usual. He nods. Conversation goes back and forth in which the party learns little except there is treasure ahead. Tiana is excited about the prospect and ushers the group out after taking some of the books from the old man.
They move to the door at the far end and open it. They are greated by the worst cacophony of noise that could only be called a symphony of chaos. The lawful members of the group suffer, but the rest manage to come out unscathed they believe. Ichi unfortunately is rendered confused by the music and starts to attack Tiana. He actually inflict little damage as Aeronne tackles him and hold him down. While this chaos is happening, three winged apes attack the party. Despite being crippled, the party manages to kill them all. Healing up what damage they took, they move on. The first find a statue of a skeleton with rotting flesh. It asks for a gift of death. Tiana has the muscled men bring her a winged ape body, then gives it to the statue. She is permitted to pass the statue and retrieve her prize. She walks through a wall and enters a room with a sickly yellow hue. The walls have twisted figures all showing deference to an amber mace set into the wall. Tiana greedily grabs the mace and feels an intelligence from the mace. She passes the test and it accepts her. It says it is Typhus and will serve her as long as she serves chaos. She also senses that her being a priestess was part of the test. She walks out and joins the party, letting them know what happened. They move to the next statue.
A deep green statue that asks for a sacrifice. Tiana stands before it and tries to give it a body, which does nothing. The statue then reaches out for Tiana, she backs off at first, then relents. The statue touches her head and drains wisdom. She is allowed to pass where she finds a room with a cloak. She goes to grab for it and hesitates. Remembering that the role of priestess was a requirement, she looks around and gets a rogue or assassin vibe. She doesn't take it and walks out. The next statue is a warrior with a sword. Saying it is for a warrior to decide if they wish to sacrifice, Tolus waffles on it, but then decides against it and the party moves on. The next statue talks of dark magics and rewards. Tiana surmises this is a mage statue and leaves it up t the mages to decide. He quickly passes. The statue pleads to be free and she will reward them for her freedom. Tiana is tempted but then says no and they move on to the final statue at the end, a hideous black statue. Thinking it needed a sacrifice as well, Tiana moved before it and asked what did it need Lord of Chaos. Instead of speaking, it attacked Tiana, hurting her. Ichi moves in to defend her and demolishes the statue with Aeronne's assistance.
After the statue is destroyed Mikhail feels the atmosphere get "better". Like a piece of the puzzle was solved. They move into the next room. It is a circular room with only one door, the one they came in and a smaller version of the chaos symbol on the floor. Tiana tries to fit the chaos key into it with no luck. Trying to see if the key needs to be positioned differently, Tiana turns the key and feels the room turn with it. She lines it up to another door and then another. Finding three doors in total. They try one of the doors and finds a long hallway similar to the one they entered from. Tiana opens the door and finds a shattered statue. THis was the way they came. Letting out a sigh, she goes back and turns the room again. She opens that door with the group following her. THe door opens to the plane of water and it starts flooding the hall. Tolus and Mikhail and pinned against the wall by the torrent as the waters do not phase Tiana at all. SIghing in joy, she realizes she needs to help the group. She runs into the circular room with the key and tells the party to get back into the room. Once they are, Tiana moves the room, stopping the flow of water. The next door opens to set of stairs. When Tiana steps on the first stair, a booming voice announces them. Not trusting the rest of the stairs, Tiana uses her sandals of flying to move the party up to the two large doors emblazoned with dragons. The doors do not open. Tiana goes to the bottom, thinking one of the stairs trigger the opening. Minus one magic spear and several darts later, the realize this supposition is false. Exasperated, Tiana stands in front of the doors and says I am an agent of Chaos. Much to their surprise, the doors open.
The room before them is a huge chamber. A throne sits on the far side with an old man sitting on it wielding a rod with a ruby at the end. He asks the party if they are here to serve chaos and replace him. Tiana moves the party forward while engaging him in chatter. Aeronne, the paladin of Athena, cannot handle pretending to be an agent of chaos anymore, challenges the old man. Realizing they are not there to replace him and further chaos, he stands up and summons several grey slaadi and snakes. The party charges forward to attack. Spells go back and forth, but the party prevails. Ichi finds several of the slaadi are illusions but keeps moving on, engaging the old priest. Aeronne hits the final blow, serving the lords of Law. Tiana grabs the rod, thinking it magical. Ichi notices a slot at the back of the throne that the rod fits perfectly. it opens a hidden door to the priest's quarters. The party waits to move forward.
