The party (Baron Moorak Drake with Feyrath, Duchess Taarna of Bloodstone, Sir Rhom StrongArm, Kate Northbrook, Black Robe, Wooden Thighs, Darya Woodswift, Sister Bianca, Aeronne, and Tolus) continue searching the volcanic cave system for a wish item. They know that their time is limited; without the protection/resist fire spells, they couldn't last more thana few minutes in these tunnels. After Black Robe's legend lore reveals that the ioun stone in question is not the wish item they were seeking, the heroes plan their next move. Just as they get underway, an efreet and three salamanders come down the hallway they were planning on exploring. Most of the party charges with Tolus, Wooden Thighs, and Feyrath on point. That's when a wall of iron cuts these lead three off from the rest of the heroes and traps them with the monsters!
Unfortunately for the efreet, this was not a wise move. Tolus, Woody, and Feyrath savage him. The three salamanders move to protect him, but are unable to even land a blow on Tolus and only mildly hurt the other two. Meanwhile as Black Robe completes his prayer, Bianca dispels the wall and Moorak unleashes a lighting bolt. One salamander is stunned and the efreet dies. The heroes then gang up and make VERY short work of the other two. The party heals up and moves on with Taarna tracking these creatures back from where they came.
The Duchess notices a trail of fire giants down a side passage and the heroes investigate. It's a jotun nursery. Rhom and Taarna charge in and start slaughtering the matrons, supported by Wooden Thighs, Feyrath, Tolus, and Moorak. The rest of the heroes opt to simply stand watch. The fire giant children cower, cry, and quickly die.
The party then arrives at a massive cavern with a flow of lava bisecting it. On the near side are three salamander smiths, with three more fire giant smiths on the other side. With the giants are two other warriors and a fire giant amazon. Most of the heroes change the salamanders, but Rhom, Woody, and Feyrath go after the jotuns instead. Most of the creatures are surprised and the fight begins rather unevenly. Rhom takes out one giant while Woody and Feyrath engage another. Moorak drops a slow spell on the lot of the giants. Meanwhile, Taarna tackles one salamander, Aeronne another, and Tolus the third. The salamanders die rather quickly, only to reveal two, and later a third, lurking in the lava, all of which MIRACULOUSLY didn't notice either Rhom or Woody! The werepanther, meanwhile, is having a hard time as three of the giants gang up on him. Woody is smashed to the edge of life, prompting Moorak to charge in to protect him, axe and board! Rhom, meanwhile, uses Hrolstov to drive one giant's leg INTO the ground and then shatters the other leg. Feyrath likewise tackles a fire giant by herself and manages to survive. When the other giants join the fray, however, neither is as lucky -- Woody flees back across the lava and Feyrath would have been slain save for Moorak's timeheal spell which has the unexpected side effect of causing HIM damage. Rhom, however, manages to smash a trail of death in his wake and finishes off the giants with a little magic missile help from Darya on the other side of the lava flow.
