The heroes (Joe StrongArm, Wynd and Thundr, Cliffy, Bethany and Cleo with Gilgamesh, Rhom StrongArm, River, and Sul Absil the minotaur) teleport back to Amberwood to heal up and get a nap. Bianca is happy to due the spell and several party members suggest that the cleric of Ilmatar accompany the heroes back to the frost giant lair. Now restored, Cliffy teleports the heroes back to the cloud giant's lair, which is undisturbed, but dark as the torches have all burned down. The party exits Cliffy's enchanted house but the light and noise attracts the interest of a frost giant on patrol with a pair of winter wolves...
The heroes slaughter the monsters, but draw the attention of the dozen frost giants on guard and ready for battle at the entrance to this section of the lair! With these giants are four HUGE polar bears, which lead the charge. Rhom slams one bear, stunning it and similarly stuns a giant. Wynd holds both female polar bears leaving Sul Absil to fight the remaining male bear. The heroes are rocked by a barrage of boulders, but manage to dodge nearly all of them! Cliffy returns the favor with a magical flare, unleashing a chain lightning into the back of the frost giant ranks which incinerates a couple of foes and seriously wounds several jotuns before being finally ground out in the front of the melee against Thundr. Rhom again charges into the frost giant ranks and takes out two more giants, but is then surrounded and nearly slain. The rest of the heroes, mostly the deadly arrows of Wynd and River, very quickly take the heat off of the warsmith. Joe keeps transmuting the air into fog, creating cover for the heroes and making the giants have to work even harder. Things are looks quite good...
Which is when a second band of frost giants attack from the opposite side. Joe is nearly killed with a mirror imaged Bethany moving in to save him. Sul and River take on these new foes and drop many, though Bianca is nearly also killed in the missile exchange. Bianca and Wynd manage to heal up Rhom to fighting strength during the melee and Cliffy refreshes Bianca's stoneskin.
The heroes can see now that the glacial complex is enormous and that several rooms worth of giants have already descended upon them. There appear to be a few frost giant guardians in the distance armed with heavy crossbows (ballistae) but they're in no hurry to charge the heroes (and die)!
