After more than a decade in the Underdark, living in the city of Erelhui-Cinlu, Carnellia, former half-elf and now drow mage / cleric of Bast returns to the surface world to see her friends in Klarr. She brings with her not only her talking black panther guardian, Melkin, but also her young daughter, Ky'Nara. Various adventuring companions flock to Klarr, including Brand with his son Dante. Jasmine closes the Displacer early in order to host Carnellia's home-coming -- heroes only! This leaves the traverlers Kahana and Lohaheel literally out-in-the-cold, as a light snow begins to fall on the forested village. As the older heroes chat and reminisce, Viktor with Billi and Pacha, show Ky'Nara what "trees" are and how a forest works. Melkin accompanies them to keep the young drow safe. Not only Dante but also Kahana and Lohaheel join the "explorers" as well since there is nothing else happening in the quite community. Kahana and Dante immediately lock horns, but Billi catches the scent of something and growls a warning. The group moves to investigate and soon finds itself battling a pair of hyendons and then a third as well as more than half a dozen gnolls. The rag-tag band does well, though Ky'Nara is knocked unconscious and Dante seriously wounded. The potentially-fatal wound triggers Dante's sacred guardian -- Brand teleports to the group as the last gnoll dies. The mage timeheals the young drow and tells the group to say nothing of her wounds to her mothers...Dante, on the other hand, should feel a little pain as an object lesson...
