While Asbah is away trying to save herself in Huzuz, the rest of the party (Tiberius, Alexander, Kuran, Taephyr, and Dul Abdul) explore the burial complex and ziggurat of the Chun vampire queen. As part of this, Alexander sketches the copious wall inscriptions and Kuran tosses around many know history spells, including upon the sleeping Queen and the Eye of Ishtar keeping her so. This information is enough for Taephyr to scout the rest of the valley from the air under a cloak of invisibility, allowing him to locate at least one active gate nearby.
Asbah returns and the heroes join her in her mission to repay the kindness of the jann. The group travels to the ruins of the city of Ibnath with Taephyr again acting as aerial scout. The party decides to enter from the north to avoid most of the ruins and focus on their mission -- to eradicate the ghul in the ruins. As the group approaches, they spy a lone altar outside the city some half mile distant. Getting closer, the group realizes that desert harpies roost there and very soon a fight breaks out. The harpies appear to have befriended somehow a group of ghoulist bats which join them in the attack. Asbah's fireball and Alexander's illusionary fireball and lightning bolt whittle down the enemy's numbers and Tiberius hacks into them. Unfortunately, both the boy and Alexander are momentarily charmed but the harpies don't really live long enough to profit from this.
Continuing, Asbah, thanks to her detect invisibility spell, spies an invisible vrock at the altar waiting. The heroes kill the demon fairly quickly, relying mostly on Tiberius' skill with a blade. Afterwards, Kuran's know history reveals that the vrock had been impersonating a dead god in order to gain worshipers and power. The party binds their wounds and makes camp a short distance away to recover and nap.
