Black Robe's forces of Flan and elves were disappearing in the Howling Hills. As a result, the shaman assembled a party to go investigate and help out. Answering the call and nominally leading the group was Prince Garlok Drake of Amberwood with his brass dragon companion, Timrith, and his labrador retriever puppy/familiar, Boomika. Transporting the party to the site was Rhanée StrongArm with her copper dragon, Zauloman, and gold drake familiar, Emrys. The Brown Witch also brought along her two targs, Metrion and Xinthos as well as her apprentice Eva and her bunny familiar, Jack. Adding to the menagerie is Marc and his dire wolf, Little Man, and giant weasel, Sucker. Helping with the tracking were River and Pudic while the human-turned-minotaur, Sul Absil, was also there to help with combat and tracking by scent. Finally, rounding out the group were the psychic healer Nymphadorus as well as the half-dragon sorcerer, Locke.
The heroes quickly encountered a group of four bugbear curious if the party was there to "trade" -- it turned out they were working for a ship-full of marooned neogi slavers and their umber hulk body guards. The heroes soon found themselves in a very tight and fierce fight against the umber hulks, mind-controlling neogi, ogre muscle, and other slaves. In the end, the heroes managed to defeat and slay nine neogi, seven umber hulks, many ogres and bugbear, and a handful of other races, including orcs and goblins. The heroes also managed to free a tall, thin teenage girl with teal skin as well as an intelligent, pregnant female octopus intent on returning to her own world (and ocean) before he spawn are born.
The heroes recovered the neogi treasure, including their spell-jamming helm AND the (effectively one-way) gate that stranded the whole group (their ship crashed on an asteroid on the other side of the gate). Next move? Good question...
