The heroes (Tiberius, Asbah with Waaha and Jabla Jaleed, Alexander, Mahmud, Taephyr, and Kuren) use the last of their healing and continue on, trying to find the source of the danger Asbah saw in her tarot cards. They travel deeper into the ruined pyramid complex, coming to a large room full of ghouls. As the group planned their next move, two of the ghouls entered Taephyr's protective aura and attacked! Tiberius wounded them before being paralyzed and Mahmud lept to the boy's defense. The might warrior was also paralyzed, so Kuren calmed the two fighters, allowing them to re-enter the fray. As these ghasts went down, two more came to take their place. These undead savaged Mahmud and again paralyzed Tiberius. Asbah and Kuren moved to fight with Alexander taking Asbah's place after she too was paralyzed. Taephyr even interposed invisibly, trying to help his allies. Finally, all four ghasts were destroyed and the heroes had time to recover.
The party slowly fell back, the ghouls following them down the passage to the surface, just at the edge of the lammasu's aura. The heroes used every missile weapon available to them, but only a few ghouls fell. Finally, Waaha returned to Asbah with a lightning bolt spell which devastated the ghouls. The two survivors chose to flee. Taephyr attacked one and Asbah the other. After the sha'ira was wounded, Tiberius took her place and finished the fight. Taephyr, however, was badly wounded and Kuren out of spells. The heroes fell back to the ashiras' grove to rest.
At the grove, the heroes encountered a pair of harpies. Alexander took the first one out without effort -- two magic missiles crippled the creature's wings and she fell to the ground, easy to finish off. Taephyr protected Tiberius from the other one, though the party made short work of her too. They then rested in the grove with the five grateful ashira. Asbah summoned five unseen servants, putting the grove nicely in order.
Taephyr, Kuren, and Alexander slept while the rest of the party remained on watch in shifts. After midnight, Taephyr used a nap spell to help recover spells after he and Kuren healed most of the heroes. The shukenja sent hsi spirit back to the ruins as he slept, spying a dead harpy in the sands and a strange, tall female ghoul ruling the others. In the wee hours of the morning, another female vampire appeared and attacked, feeding on one of the ashira. The heroes had a fairly easy time defeating this undead and Mahmud staked her to the ground. The rosy rays of day caught the vampire's bones and she burst into flame.
The heroes then spent two days in the grove, healing up. On the first day resting, the party encountered a chimera, but through teamwork they quickly grounded the beast and then killed it.
