The heroes (Taarna, Rhom, Wynd with Thundr, Brock, Esmerelda with Drusilla, Cymoril, Cliffy, Tolus, and Moonlight) hear a dragon roar and prepare for combat. Two minutes later and still nothing. Cliffy catches a glimpse of something invisible and Thundr goes nuts with the scent of a female fire-breathing dragon. Suddenly, Cliffy and Tarjar are snatched from a rooftop by a huge, ancient, invisible dragoness that carries them both off. Rhom manages to nail the creature twice with his hammers, badly damaging both wings. Strangely, however, the dragoness does not fall from the sky but gently glides down. Cliffy unleashes a volley of magic missiles but they hit a shield. Tarjar's arm is pinned and the dragon starts squeezing both victims while gnawing on the fighter's head!
Cliffy manages to get off a teleport and reappears alongside Tolus. Tarjar is not so lucky. Esmerelda polymorphs herself into a pegasus and Rhom uses his magical boots to "air ski" along, carrying Taarna and Moonlight. Meanwhile, Wynd and Tolus use their enhanced speed to run through the ruins in the direction the dragoness flew off. The group hears a crash, as if the dragon slammed into a building. Esmerelda gains altitude, but Taarna and Rhom let go. They fall into the ruins, but catch sight of the dragoness invoking a wand of lightning WHICH KEEPS ATTACK ON ITS OWN and then she unleashes a HUGE, blistering blast of fire. Taarna and Rhom are annoyed and combat is joined.
Taarna's first action is to feather fall while Rhom uses his boots to land and attack. The dragon unleashes a flurry of claws and teeth on the warsmith, who responds with two more hammer blows! Taarna uses Grizzly to hack huge chunks of the dragon and Moonlight resumes human form and attacks as well. The wand keeps blasting, annoying both Rhom and Taarna. The dragon, desperate, charms Rhom to defend her and the warsmith throws Taarna to the ground, just as she's striking the creature. The ranger and druid both strike at the VERY SAME INSTANT, slaying the dragoness. Both bath in her blood. Moonlight gains some measure of bravery as well as the ability to understand the speech of evil dragons while Taarna gains a limited version the mesmerizing gaze of a dragon plus an understanding to the minotaur language. Tarjar, meanwhile, has survived, thanks in part to Wynd. The dragoness was forced to drop him so she could avoid hurting herself as she slammed into the building -- her bulk kept aloft by a one-shot feather fall effect.
Meanwhile, Esmerelda circles back for Tolus and Cliffy along with Thundr. They're attacked by three small, bat-like creatures that blast a beam which acts like poison. Esmerelda's hypnotic pattern, however, ensnares the creatures and the other three slaughter them. Similarly, an ant lion is disturbed by the party's actions, but is quickly put down.
After a few hours bathing and skinning the dragon, Esmerelda opens a portal to Amberwood. The group then heads back to the Temple of the Magi, led by a now-revived Tarjar. En route, Moonlight spies a particularly angry and vengeful poltergeist, the ghost of dozens of dead killed suddenly and unfairly, screaming for vengeance. The heroes make quick work of the spirit before continuing on.
Finally, they arrive at the Temple of the Magi and enter. Then encounter Hepmonaland children, bound up to be used as sacrificial victims. Taarna and Wynd both assume dopplegangers and the creatures call for a truce. They asked to be let free in exchange for information. Ultimately, the natural mind readers negotiate an agreement where they will be brought to the Theocracy of the Pale and allowed to take the place of several priests of Lendor in exchange for very detailed intel on the lair.
The heroes teleport first to Klarr and then Greyhawk where they are healed and nap. They awaken in the late afternoon and Moonlight attempts to contact greater spirit but Nnuuurrrr'c'c' knows nothing of Suendrako.
