The heroes elect to get additional support and resources, so Cliffy and Esmerelda transport Cymoril, Wynd, Brock, and Tolus first to Portown where they are joined by Sage Edulis-Drake. The group then continues on to Greyhawk where they get a nap spell from the Cathedral of Istus. The group then returns to Suendrako.
During their nap, several party members have divine dreams. As a result, Sage does not join the party but rather sets a trap for the Wee Jasians and others from the Scarlet Brotherhood who're following the heroes. Brock is encouraged to recover a lost relic of Kord and Cymoril gets the idea that the cleric of the Brawler and Rhom will be the MVPs for this battle. The heroes then cast a bunch of defensive and buffing spells before opening the chamber to the Zargon.
The chamber turns out to be 30' deep, with the entry allowing access to the top section. The entire room is shaped like a pyramid with the 16' tall Zargon below. Scattered around the beast are countless bits of bone and metal, remnants of all who've come before. Crucified against one wall if a man. He is missing his hands and feet as well as the top of his head, but he bears a skull amulet and regenerates slowly...
Rhom flies into the room (thanks to Cliffy!) with Brock on his back. The warsmith smites the Zargon as the cleric goes for the belt of dragon-hides he saw in his dream. Taarna also flies down (thanks, Cliffy!) and hacks the creature. The blood from the wound falls to the ground and forms another, smaller Zargon! Wynd's arrows do the same and Taarna and Wynd find themselves slaying the spawn they had just created. Cymoril's flail inflicts serious damage and thanks to the half potion of TITAN strength that Brock quaffed, the cleric inflicts serious damage. That's when the Zargon manages to hit several of the other party members and feed on their blood, largely healing his wounds. The melee continues, with only Rhom doing serious damage to the creature. It responds by thrashing the hammer-wielder, though Esmerelda uses her doll to heal her son at range. Finally, Thundr joins the fray, leaping onto the beast. The heroes hack it again, Brock channeling the powers of Kord while Rhom invokes his blessing from Moradin. The Zargon's barbed tentacles inflict serious injuries, but it cannot keep up with the onslaught. The Zargon falls at -50. Cliffy then uses a wish to interrupt the creature's regeneration and Esmerelda leaps from above and uses a rest eternal to send the monstrosity back to the Far Realms. There is a huge pulse of energy and the heroes have accomplished the first part of their mission in the Forgotten City! Unfortunately, this pulse triggers a collapse of the structure and the heroes are forced to flee.
Rhom and Wynd are left behind while Cliffy teleports most of the party to Portown. Esmerelda dimensional folds back to Klarr. Soon, Mikhail arrives, sensing the release of "unbalance" and gathers Rhom and Wynd up to bring them, first to Klarr and then to Portown. First, however, the young druid collects Sage, who explains that the Scarlet Brotherhood troops are there, but have "triggered" some undead summoning traps -- in truth, her summoned greater wraiths have wrecked havoc on the other party and both clerics lie dead. The party returns to Portown where they spend the night and celebrate.
Nice job!
