The heroes (Taarna, Rhom, Wynd with Thundr, Brock, Esmerelda with Drusilla, and Tolus) meet back up with Cliffy and Tianna joining with Esmerelda. Shortly after the group comes together, Moonlight returns and explains that there is an "unnatural" cave with demons nearby. The heroes travel about a half hour to investigate, thanks to Cliffy's magic house. The cave radiates an aura of strangeness which seems to absorb light and sound, so much so that Thundr balks at entering. After a bit of a struggle, the group enters and very quickly encounters a pair of vrocks. Soon afterward, the heroes find and slay a half dozen glabrezu as well as a hezrou as well.
There is, however, no sign of the missing al karak elam children and the party then meticulously searchs the life-draining caverns. They come across a huge horde of dead bodies and treasure, which Esmerelda disturbs with a speak with dead. Nine spectres rise to punish the intruder. Only a timely wall of fire from Moonlight saves the party from being overrun by the seven wraiths and four wights with the spectres. With effort and a few level drains, the heroes first vanquish the spectres, then Rhom, Taarna, and Wynd cross the curtain of fire and take out the other undead.
The heroes decide to leave but Wynd, Tolus, and Moonlight find that they cannot. The group tries to come up with a plan, but while waiting, Tolus' mind snapes and he attacks Wynd. Moonlight tackles the ranger, giving Wynd a chance to charm him. Then, Wynd uses his scroll of plane shift to escape.
