The heroes (Yavin, Katya, Hamish, Gilean, Kinsa with Dagaru, Remort, Twyll, Dormius, and Qumansi) bed down for the night. With Kinsa and Remort on watch around midnight, Kinsa notices something moving in the darkness outside Katya's shelter but doesn't know what. The pair awaken the party and Twyll's ultravision reveals a half dozen strange humanoids with pale skin, shark-like teeth, and comical hair dressed in garish colored clothes and bearing all sorts of baroque jewelry. Dormius recognizes the gith and freaks out. Remort manages to read the head mages mind, learning that the gith are hunting for "whatever took out the wraith." The mage then notices Remort's mental intrusion and dispels magic ineffectively. Remort than accidentally dumps the mage's short-term memory, leading to the mage arguing at length with the rest of his companions!
Kinsa casts detect invisibility and links to Yavin. Gilean prepares his bio powers and Hamish simply gets ready to mash... A cleric tries to dispel the shelter but also fails, as does another cleric. The bulk of the gith then begin to search for the structure by hand. Hamish crashes out, stunning two gith. For his efforts, he (and Qumansi and Gilean) get flame struck! A faerie fire from Moonlight catches many of the gith, but using his mental link with Kinsa, Yavin unleashes a continual faerie fire on all but one gith. An evard's black tentacles catches Dormius, Hamish, and one of the giff in the party. Another flame strike then kills Kinsa!
Yavin moves to avenge the witch as Hamish starts to cut a path of death to the mage, though his success in combat earn him magic missiles from nearly every mage. Dormius hacks himself clear of the tentacle, but falls. Twyll is stuck battling the same gith. Gilean's mental powers fail and Remort is forced to time shift to save his own life. Katya conjures a sword and begins to hack apart the two gith inside her shelter.
The heroes manage to hack down half of the gith, causing their leader and four others to flee in a rainbow swirl. Yavin raises Kinsa from the dead. The witch, still enjoying her detect invisibility spell, see that the five gith are standing amid the party talking. Hamish tries to attack, but barrels through them. Yavin then unleashes a dispel magic which causes four of the five to precipitate from the border ethereal into this reality. The heroes slaughter two of the gith, though the other two shift back to the ethereal plane. Yavin again dispels one, the leader, but he again shifts, this time to some other plane...
