The heroes (Yavin, Katya, Hamish, Gilean, Moonleaf, Kinsa, Remort, Twyll, and Dormius) are awoken before dawn. A pod of five beholders are flying in from the nearby sky-mountain. Yavin casts fly on himself and Hamish before joining Kinsa to scout the foes. Hamish uses Artec's magical bow to straff the creatures with arrows. Three beholders turn aside while two others are shot to death. Yavin uses light spells to reveal which beholders still have anti-magic rays. Hamish continues to fire and Yavin uses the Highlander's vision to mentally get close to one beholder under cover of darkness and unleash a heat lightning bolt. Throwing stars take out another beholder and Hamish finishes off the last one, the heroes' ability to fly far superior to that of the beholders.
Yavin uses his spells with the support of Kinsa and Katya to transport the entire party AND all the wynkin to the flying mountain range more than 100 miles east of the heroes. There, the party rests, helping the wynkins to create a new home. Twyll and Gilean scribe spells and Katya finds a familiar, a strange greenish-gold, four-winged bat with golden mucous-membranes, silver teeth, red eyes, and paralytic saliva! Kinsa and Dagaru go hunting and encounter a number of lenmen (beholder spawn). Kinsa kills a couple using sleep spells, but Remort discovers that one of these creatures, those with orange eyes, can heal. Kinsa manages to capture one, though it is NOT charmed...
