The heroes (Taarna, Rhom, Ichi, Saanau, Wynd & Thundr, Shang-Lung, Brock, and Aeronne) regrouped back in Bloodstone, most headed to the Inn of the Clown. Wynd, however, stays with Thundr who is still suffering from fear, while Aeronne goes out about the town and uses his detect evil power to find any lingering, invisible assassins. Both are attacked by an invisible assasin! Aeronne ONLY survives because he had earlier drunk of potion of invulnerability. SOMEHOW another assassin tries to backstab Wynd, but misses BADLY and is forced to flee. He takes off on a flying broom and later attacks again using a bow, but a dispel magic drops him and Wynd finishes him, capture his magical broom.
Back at the Inn, Ichi, Taarna, and Rhom talk with Stephen, the bar keep. They're also ambushed by another assassin as well, but Ichi spots him and the group drives him off after the monk wounds the man. While escaping a high level monk seems unlikely, Ichi couldn't see to strike the broad side of a barn and had no way to catch the assassin once he jumped onto an invisible wyvern waiting in the square outside the inn. Rhom then raids the smithy and quickly fashions massive screws to secure the inn from any non-giant strength intrusion.
Near dawn a wave of shadows attack the houses near the abby. Shang, Ichi, and Wynd quickly deal with the undead, discovering that many families were systematically attacked so as to create more shadows...in a manner shadows do NOT normally act...! They also discover that the abby was attacked and Aldric survived only by hiding behind a hidden door after casting invisibility to undead. The cleric of Lendor gives the party guff, so Wynd charms him and has him use his healing for the benefit of the group.
Back at the Inn, Saanau agrees to teleport herself, Shang, and Tolus' corpse back to Sage in Portown for some further support. The hope is that the two can get Tolus reincarnated by Taurix the Druid or possibly a mage Saanau knows.
Meanwhile, Taarna and Wynd search around for the missing sage, Quillan, determining that he was almost certainly abducted. Taarna speaks with Christine, the new Baroness, and asks her to contact the dwarves and centaurs for their aid.
