The heroes (Taarna, Rhom, Esmerelda with Drusilla, Corvin, Saanau, Visglir, Ichi, and Aeronne) enter the stormy cloud-island where the baby storm giant, Squall, is supposedly held. Cirria, the silver dragonness, agrees to circle the spot with Drusilla to help the heroes escape. The group descends 30' into a series of channels within the mostly-solid cloud. They group encounters and battles a horde of skeletons, six of which turn out to be shapeshifters -- green draconic creatures similar to gargoyles or demons. The group takes out a couple invisible stalkers and air elementals as well as several rooms with skeletons, these draconic creatures in green, white, and black, as well as invisible ice devils. Ichi and Rhom rain violence upon their foes and Saanau's spells likewise take their toll. Unfortunately, there are several side-effects, such as one fireball burns off the walls and floor and a thunderbolt triggers a thunderstorm INSIDE the cloud-room! Visglir is nearly vaporized in one such discharge...
The group descends several levels and explores a wide section of the cloud-island. Rhom accidentally frees a captive pit fiend, that fears the warsmith and effectively removes him from the party. A half hour rest does nothing to shake the effect, but the heroes start to seriously suffer altitude sickness. They later encounter the Rainbird, a divine being suffering the loss of his friend, a human wizard named Acorn. The bird convinces the party to rescue the mage and to do so they tangle with Alquel, an efreeti pasha. Taarna lands an amazing blow which nearly kills the efreeti, who assumes gaseous form. The group finds Acorn's friend, a djinn named Ibrahim, who then uses his whirlwind to suck the efreeti into a ceramic bottle. Esmerelda reaches the dying mage and gives him her elixir of health, saving his life. Unfortunately, he has been severe level-drained and has no spells left. The djinn and rainbird take Acorn and Rhom to safety while the heroes prepare to enter "the tornado" in order to find the baby giant. Acorn, however, explains that this is all the work of the former Archduke of Hell, Satan. Bereft of power, the devil seeks to turn Acorn's friend, the cloud dragon, Bangalore, to the side of evil by coaxing him to sacrifice the innocent jotun in the devil's name.
Can the heroes stop the giant and save the dragon's soul in their battered state?!?
