The party (Maedhros, Artec, Hamish, Katya, Remort, Borlon, and Gilean) heals up, picks up Kinsa, Moonleaf, and one of the sahuagin priestess, and returns through the gate. Borlon sends the charmed priestess back to the city. Telepathically, he tells her that he wants to set a trap for the party. She is to go to the high priestess to report. She swims off, and the party heads to shore. Artec, using the ring of the zephyr, runs over the surface of the water. He gets there first and watches over the water looking for any signs of sahuagin. Gilean arrives about a minute later.
While Borlon is still in the water up to his waist with Maedhros and Moonleaf, he senses that the priestess has already made it to the high priestess. So they make their preparations, and he teleports the three of them to her. All three have protection from lightning, and Maedhros prepares himself by casting and holding lightning bolt just before the teleport.
They appear in a blue-tiled room with the largest yellow sahuagin priestess they’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, Borlon almost collapses from the extreme pressure at that depth. Maedhros is also affected but takes no damage. Moonleaf starts casting rock to mud on the floor beneath the high priestess. Borlon psionic blasts the priestesses and stuns the lesser priestess. Moonleaf turns the area behind the high priestess to mud to try to cut off her escape.
Maedhros lets loose with the lightning bolt, but Borlon has taken so much damage he has to teleport away with Moonleaf, leaving Maedhros behind to finish the job. Borlon reappears in the shallows and collapses. Moonleaf casts cure serious wounds on him right away.
The high priestess bolts and flees into the next room. Maedhros swims over to look into the room and sees it is full of sahuagin, including a huge sahuagin on a throne, and a bunch of sharks. He teleports out of there and appears on the beach, vomiting up a bunch of water. He explains that their mission failed, they regroup and return through the gate.
They decide to lock the gate so that it leads only to an icy world, until they are able to pacify the other side.
Idky plane shifts them to the other world, and Borlon teleports them to the island. The continual darkness spells are back up in the lagoon. Borlon and Maedhros use polymorph potions to become sahuagin, and after conferring with their charmed sahuagin, they swim down toward the city. Everyone is on high alert, but they don’t encounter anything untoward. They find that the pressure doesn’t affect them, and they can see and move like actual sahuagin. He takes them to the temple, and they start scouting it out. They can’t find any priestesses in the temple, so they get to a birthing chamber and are able to charm one of the lower level priestess to question her. That leads them to another priestess who is able to get to them to a higher-level priestess. They manage to charm her as well, but she’s not on good terms with the high priestess. They are able to get some details of the high priestess’ schedule. They get her to insist on an audience with the high priestess and head back to the island. Borlon follows her telepathically. She is only able to meet with another higher level priestess. Borlon hops to her mind and trails her. Over a couple days, he continues to monitor her. Borlon ports the party to another safer island more than 100 miles away where they can rest without threat of sahuaghin attack. The idea is to live there until Borlon is able to get a mental fix on the high priestess. It takes six full days of tailing various other priestesses, but ultimately Borlon makes his connection.
Borlon and Maedhros teleport in as polymorphed sahuagin thanks to a potion. Unfortunately, things go awry. Maedhros is stunned by the sudden pressure change and loses his held lightning bolt. After a brief scuffle and Borlon interposing himself, he is able to get off a lightning bolt, which stuns them both. A psychic crush and another lightning bolt finishes them off. Sharks and other sahuagin start to approach. While Borlon covers with psi blast, Maedhros reduces her, and they teleport out.
Back in safety, Borlon reaches out to the fifth-level priestess’ mind to see what’s happening in the city. It is in total disarray, and they don’t know what to do about it now that the two highest-level priestesses are now dead. Borlon and Maedhros charm a new sahuagin and send him back to the king with a message: send no more sahuagin to the gate; otherwise, the upper echelons of their society will continue to die. The king attacks him, but the schlub was protected by a stoneskin and survives the initial assault. He sends back his own message that if the sahuaghin meet the humans they will destroy them.
During the conversation, Borlon jumps into the king’s mind. The king was just trying to save face. He plans to make the lagoon off limits. After Yavin returns, he and Borlon work together to send a telepathic message to the king to set the new limits of his territory and to let him know that Borlon has the ability to access his thoughts any time, any place, with no restrictions. The sahuaghin king agrees to the new terms -- no sea-devils may approach within 100' of the island, on punishment of death...the King's!
Borlon then releases the three captive sahuaghin (two priestesses and a warrior) on a completely different part of the world, preferring to exile rather than execute the captives now that the conflict is over. The prince is another matter; he is far too great a threat to anyone living on this world, so Borlon releases him on Torsh to live the rest of his life in isolation.
