The bulk of the party (Zauloman, Adam with Bertha, Locke, Vanity, Tolinar, and Tolus) wait through the night for Rhanée to return using her magical mirror. In the morning, the Brown Witch does arrive and the heroes evacuate the beholder-kin lair for Dragondale. Rhanée tells Kymmera that since she was wounded, she cannot continue and Adam (with Bertha) will take her place. The young witch goes off and pouts, but uses the time to finally summon her own familiar, the hawk, Fewmets. Rhanée locates the ranger, Pudic, and asks for his help in dealing with the orcs and ogres.
The next day, Rhanée reopens the mirror and evacuates the party to Dragondale. Kymmera, as an apprentice, is there, though Serena is not and Tabitha is still in no state to help.
Shortly after arrival, the heroes hear screams and Locke and Kymmera rush to investigate. A druidess is fleeing yeti while an older druid is ripped apart by two more of the snow-beasts. The heroes make short work of the yeti, rescuing the druidess, Corona, although there is nothing they can do for her master. She explains that they were investigating some disturbance to the forest and were headed to ancient elven ruins nearby. The heroes decide that this is a good place to search for the threat to the unicorn and Corona leads them directly there across particularly difficult terrain. By this point, the mirror has closed, so the party consists of Rhanée with Emrys, Zauloman, Kymmera with Fewmets, Locke with Grendel, Vanity, Tolinar, Tolus, and Pudic.
En route, three dryads become curious about the party and charm Locke. The heroes try to restrain him, but the half-dragon sorcerer tosses a few sleep spells and leaves. Zauloman tries to tackle the clumsy man, but he manages to trudge on with the dragon on his back. Finally, Rhanée asks the druidess if she would mind if she blasted the dryads and the trees they are hiding behind. Corona, a druidess of beasts, doesn't care at all, so Rhanée unleashes fiery dragon's breath on them all, incinerating the fey folk and breaking their spell over Locke (as well as scorching several of the trees badly!).
Soon the heroes find themselves battling a large group of undead, including orcish ghouls and a human ghast. The heroes manage to defeat the monsters, but in the confusion, Vanity is carried off and the creatures gnaw on the cleric's face. The rest of the party rescue her, but run afoul of an orcish hunting party who was attracted by the noise of the battle (and the smoke of the fire breath!). A few scout ahead to the elven ruins where they see more than a dozen ghouls milling about. Wounded, the heroes decide to head back home and Rhanée uses her magic mirror to evacuate the group.
The plan is to return in the morning, but Rhanée has poor luck reopening the mirror over the next few days and it is a full five days before she can bring the party back. The party spends the time healing up and re-equipping. By this point, for some reason, Adam mysteriously declines returning and Rhanée is concerned with how Serena is acting around Locke, so when Kymmera asks to go with her again, the Brown Witch agrees to bring her youngest apprentice instead. Stepping back through the magic mirror to the party arrives near the elven ruins.
They make their way to the summit and have a huge battle with orcish ghouls, a few human ghasts, shadows, and skeletons. Vanity and Zauloman attempt to turn, but ultimately fail. The heroes pull out all the stops and defeat the undead, but a pair of vrock join the melee. The heroes manage to slay both, but before they do a nabassu arrives. The fiend steals first Pudic and then Rhanée's souls, teleporting away before the heroes can slay it...!
