The heroes (Rhanée with Emrys, Zauloman, Tabitha, Kymmera, Locke, Redwolf, and Tolinar) rested in Dragondale overnight. In the Black Oak tavern, Tolinar meets up with his former adventuring companion, Draegar, an elf who joins the group. In the morning, Rhanée uses her mirror to transport the heroes back to the orcish village and site of the large battle. The place is deserted. Redwolf scouts around and notes that both bugbear and orcs have visited since the party was last there. Further, the two fought, with each leaving in a different direction. The heroes track the bugbear.
After a few hours, Redwolf notes a strange tunnel but continues. Another hour later a storm begins to move in and the party heads back to the orcish village to weather the storm. Just shy of the village, the group hears cries. They rush to investigate, finding a treed shaman surrounded by bugbears, probably the very same ones the group was tracking earlier. Nearby are several dead bodies in the snow and signs of a battle. Redwolf charges into the horde, quickly slaying several. A dog literally appears out of nowhere and also attacks the bugbear. Unfortunately the two canines are grossly outnumbered and more bugbear arrive.
Locke and Grendle join the fray, as do the elves. Tolinar and Draegar drop several of the hairy humanoids with their bows while the canines fight. The dog is Shiek, a blink dog, and the shaman is Swaying Oak, is adventuring companion. Locke and Rhanée's sleep spells help turn the tide of battle, though Swaying Oak's call lightning is a definite and decisive touch. The heroes put the monsters down without too much effort and heal up before continuing on to the orcish settlement. Before they leave, the ranger, Talus, also joins the group having become separated in the melee.
Back in the orcish village, the heroes hunker down for a snowy night, in the middle of which they are awoken by an attack. Shiek blinks to the attack and realizes the hut is surrounded. The orcs put up a good fight, but are completely out-classed by the heroes. One sleep takes out most of the humanoids and a single arrow is a serious wound. Unfortunately, the orcish leader is more resilient as are the groups two tyrg. One beast manages to break Tabitha's neck, but is slain before it can kill the witch. Shiek, meanwhile, mentally dominates the orcish leader. A single orc flees, though it appears five archer at the edge of the fight also withdraw.
Although the group is not terribly hurt, Tabitha's wounds demand particular attention. Rhanée teleports with her apprentice back to Amberwood and then uses her magic mirror to fetch the rest of the part.
