While Mei Long, Viktor, and Rhiannon managed to rescue Klarr's heroes who sought to attack the bugbear, these new heroes were unable to find and save the victims of the bugbears. As a result, Esmerelda and Jasmine, the Green and White witches of Klarr call together Morbius, Styr, Locke, Vanity, Myake, Dare, Oran, and Slar to go after the kidnapped townsfolk. The group leaves Klarr and treks through the light snowfall to the bugbear's lair. There, they are ambushed by four bugbear champions, armed and armored with drowic magical weapons and armor. The fight goes badly and most of the heroes fall. Most of the others would have died too had it not been for the timely arrival of Billi and Locke's dog, Brendle. While Billi survives the battle (barely) the other dog does not.
The battle is fierce. Mei Long carries an unconscious Viktor back to Klarr with Billi as an escort, leaving Styr and Oran to defend the fallen forms of the rest of the heroes. Unfortunately, Styr tried on a magic ring he found on the fallen bugbear, suddenly losing his ability to see entirely! Myake bleeds out, but with a bit of luck the others merely lapse into comas.
The group heads back to Klarr where Esmerelda tends their wounds and with Rhiannon heads back with Rhiannon to heal the fallen. The witch also shanghais Sabuto to join the heroes. Journeying through the night, this time the group enters the bugbears lair. They battle several groups of creatures, mostly females and children. In the process, the heroes realize that the ring of Styr not only renders him blind but also attracts nearby creatures...nice drowic cursed item!
