As Lives (and Loves) are Shattered…
The heroes, minus Hagar and Ulaanbaatar but with Andy, set out early for the mound, in hopes of revealing the secrets that lay buried far beneath. As they approached the outskirts of town, they could see the mound off in the distance with four towering creatures circled around it. The creatures, which looked to be twenty feet tall, had bat-like features and wings. Andy ran back to the inn to get additional support from Mikos and Nerumi, who had remained back in town to care for the others who seemed to be suffering from a short-lived bout of food poisoning. The trek back to the inn left Andy light headed from his concussion, so only Nerumi and Mikos returned to the barn for the battle.
The group realized they would be sitting ducks if they were to charge into the clearing surrounding the mound, so they sprang upon a plan that would use Raj’s new telepathic ability. If he could “call” to one, and perhaps lure it away from the group, they could try and fight one of the powerful creatures at a time.
At first, the plan seemed to work. With the promise of human sacrifice, one creature began flying toward the group. As it got closer, however, Raj discovered that these creatures were telepathic themselves. Soon all four creatures were flying toward the party who were trying to set up an ambush in an abandoned barn.
As the creatures, called Beeahke (sp?), circled overhead, the party rallied a fighting line. Draco, Cindari, Livak and Cmerelkyr created a semi-circle, while Raj stood at the barn door. Nerumi and Mikos set themselves up to cast spells from the windows in the barn, while Autumn provided support to them.
Three creatures flew in at once, while a third circled overhead. First, one Beeahke used their psionic attack against Draco. This attack left him paralyzed with fear. Nerumi and Mikos both were using their spells of Magic Missile to help Draco, but only Mikos was able to oversome the fearsome beasts magic resistance. With their victim unable to move, the two creatures gleefully charged in to physically attack Draco, but found themselves unable to make contact with the Paladin of Bahamut. Undeterred, they swiftly found two new opponents, Livak and Cmerelkyr.
The party completed a set of attacks against the creatures. All the heroes struck mighty blows, Cmerelkyr killed his opponent with one set of attacks. Meanwhile, the fourth creature tore in to the barn ceiling causing it to collapse on Autumn and Mikos, Nerumi and Raj were able to escape in time. Mikos lay trapped in the rubble while Autumn and Cmerelkyr became the next targets for the mental attacks of the Beeahke. Livak continued fighting the Beeahke menacing him.
Cindari’s opponent also turned and used a Psionic Blast to drop both Cindari and Nerumi. Luckily, Autumn was unfazed by the mental attack of the other creature and she was able to come to Cindari’s aid, along with Raj, who was unable to muster his powerful strength ability. Cindari got back to her feet to strike the death blow on the creature as Livak went down from a mental attack from his opponent. Raj rushed to defend the beastmaster’s body, while Cmerelkyr struck a mighty blow to fresh Beeahke attacking him….but the creature was still active.
It lashed out at Cmerelkyr with a Psychic Crush attack…the attack proved lethal. Cmerelkyr’s lifeless body crumbled to the ground at the Beeahke’s feet. With no regard for the dead man, the creature moved by him and attacked Cindari who was enraged at this creature that had just killed her lover. She lashed out with the full force of her grief and anger killing the creature and removing its head. To the remaining creature she issued a taunt…but Raj killed it before she was able to take out more vengeance.
Cindari then rushed to Cmerelkyr, cradling his upper body in her lap, the only sound her deep, mournful sobs. Nerumi silently sat with her, letting her grieve…
There seemed like nothing left to do except return to the Inn where Cindari, with Nerumi’s assistance, cleaned Cmerelkyr’s body. Cindari had no desire to bury her lovers body in the barren town, so his body was wrapped in a shroud and placed in a cellar. Cindari vowed that she would find a way to bring the man she loved back to life.
The purpose for which she was created, however, was to save Oerth…at the sake of all others. So, the next day, despite her overwhelming grief, Cindari and the rest of the party returned to the dungeon. The group met with no resistance until they reached the lower level. There, they came across three unique creatures, they had four tentacles, two pinchers and wings. The creatures were quite colorful. They hardly seemed real…but they proved to be devastating. Immediately they lashed out at Draco, Livak and Cindari. Cindari was immediately paralyzed and helpless. Raj stepped in to defend her.
While Draco stunned the creature attacking him, Livak proved to be not so lucky. The flying creature grabbed Livak in its pincher, crushing his leg from his thigh to his foot, the bones were all shattered. He collapsed in pain, he could do nothing but writhe on the ground in agony.
The remaining members of the party were able to dispatch the remaining creatures and carry Livak and Cindari from the dungeon. They arrived back in town where it was certain that without a spell of Cure Critical Wounds, Livak would not ever be able to walk again. As for Cindari, the paralyzing affect of the creature lasted a full ten minutes, after which there seemed to be no lingering affects.
The group is almost fully healed, it’s still middle of the day on June 3, they are debating their next move….
