After a brief discussion, Squattingbeaver cast dowsing and discovered the approximate location of the rune-stone on the skyship. The heroes (Ichi, Maedhros, Idky, Squattingbeaver, Lowdog, Yavin, Robyndella with Meldenya, and Cornelius) went below decks where Ichi was charmed by a lesser beholder and Lowdog found himself battling a vampire. The other heroes joined the fight and although Robyndella was charmed by another lesser beholder, her lightning bolts seriously wounded them. Yavin had to trick the princess into accepting a spell (hold person) to prevent her from attacking Ichi, who was battling the beholder that had charmed her. Luckily, the monk very quickly slaughtered his own foe and the party could focus on the remaining beholder (of the three) and vampire. Lowdog dropped the creature and Robyndella (now released) ran it into the sunlight on deck. Idky and Squattingbeaver kept the beholder busy until the fighters arrived and finished it.
Searching around, the heroes found a treasure trove and beholder creche, but no runestone -- only then recalling that the ships have multiple decks... Robyn volunteered to use the potion of acid breath[/i] to burn away the deck. Below was the runestone, a spook, and 14 zombies. Lowdog flew down and was blinded by a glyph. Ichi flew down and attacked the zombies while Maedhros destroyed four of the non-juju zombies. Somehow the spook missed the blinded totemic warrior and he flew back out to safety.
Robyndella then used the firebow Squattingbeaver cast for her to seriously hurt the spook, which was now chasing Cornelius around. The undead drained the diabolis of nearly all his levels before the archer/mage finished the creature with her fiery arrows. Maedhros, meanwhile, destroyed all the other zombies but the two jujus, both kept in combat by Ichi. Squattingbeaver restored Lowdog's sight while the other clerics healed the totemic warrior. The heroes then jumped down and vanquished the undead.
During most of the combat a magic mouth had been going off and now a horde of dream-creatures swarmed into the room through one of the doors. The leader, a greater ennui, struck Ichi and became a black dragon, while two others struck Lowdog and became a gallu-demon and kobold with heart-seeking spear (respectively). Lowdog killed the later, but the former grabbed him and went ethereal. Meanwhile, Yavin found himself battling a high priest of Set capable of a (limited) holy word! Robyndella dumped a fireball into the room beyond, destroying nearly all the dream creatures not already in combat. Ichi seriously wounded the dragon, although it managed to unleash its acid breath before it died -- the monk dodged, but it put a handy escape-hole in the side of the skyship!
After two arrows from Robyn, Ichi finished his black dragon/greater ennui foe and then slew Yavin's high-priest. Squattingbeaver tried to save Lowdog, but the gallu-demon brought the hapless totemic warrior ethereal...where all the waiting spirits literally pulled the dream being off of Lowdog. Idky and Maedhros dealt with what was left, including keeping Robyn clear so she could use the last of her magical fire arrows.
The heroes were victorious. They had reached the runestone and defeated all their foes (a couple of shadows showed up, but Maedhros quickly dealt with them). Unfortunately, Cornelius was catatonic from his life energy loss and Lowdog stranded on the ethereal. Using his shamanic abilities, Squattingbeaver nudged Lowdog outside the ship, used his falcoln cloak to become a bird and slowly started to work the totemic warrior 5000' to the ground. Robyndella then took out her magical golden axe and went at the runestone with Ichi as backup to gather the ioun stones before the skyship fell. Everyone else evacuated to the two magic brooms.
It took nearly five minutes before the princess got a solid hit on the clay tablet, taking several hits from the whirling collection of ioun stones. Ichi gathered 17 of them before leaping out and watching the skyship crash to the ground below (the spirits nudged it so the wreck missed the Pink Palace).
The darkness lifted, Elvi flew up and used a dispel magic to return Lowdog. The spirits then mostly-healed the party with the deva finishing up. The older spirits were very angry at what had happened to their world and decided to stay with the heroes in order to "pay back" the witch-queen, Sidra. Each of the heroes (but Maedhros) was marked by a group dedicated to one of the elder deities of Charn...
Ichi -- the Lawgiver blessed him with +4 to hit chaos once/day
Maedhros -- the Lawgiver and Fount of Wisdom agreed not to kill him...but that's it
Idky -- the Everchanging Moon blessed him with +3" move on any world with a moon...and it also applies to his mount!
'Beaver -- the Healing Earth granted the shaman the power to roll max healing once/day
Lowdog -- the Just Sun granted the totemic warrior inner warmth so that he would never overheat again
Yavin -- the Highgod in Heaven granted the cleric +1 to all wisdom-resisting rolls
Robyndella -- and the Morningstar blessed her with max damage roll on her bow once/day
Cornelius received no blessing from the spirits but bid the heroes goodbye. He explained that all of them (but Idky) had been touched by his dimension and would be with him forever. Using a charm, the diabolius returned to his own dimension, but hoped they would meet again in their dreams...
BECAUSE THE HEROES DID SUCH A GOOD JOB == completed both runestone in the same day -- the spirits have a little more power and time to share with the party. They cannot grant boons, but they ARE more than willing to share information and knowledge for the rest of the day. After that, most will pass on, with only a few remaining behind to take the fight to Queen Sidra.
So, PLEASE ask any questions you can think of...the worst that will happen is a "no, I don't know that." Also, I would strongly suggest dividing up treasure before we do this again (after I get home from Italy).
